Cameron “9th in the world” after fantastic semi-final effort

After only qualifying in third place from his World U20 Champs heat the previous day – Cameron Chalmers was probably not on the radar of his opponents in the middle lanes of semi-final 3 going in search of qualification to the final. Situated out in lane 9 – it was going to be a tough assignment to get in the top 2 – or claim a fastest loser spot. Ultimately the Sarnian didn’t quite manage to achieve qualification through to the final – but he came a lot closer than some would have expected and posted a big PB and Island U20 record in the process – 46.51sec. January used to be a quiet time for the GIAAC but that’s no longer the case. We are active all year around – and that is evident from all our events/ activities. Firstly congratulations to our team who braved horrible conditions and did so well at the Hampshire cross country championships. Testimony to our efforts was that I was contacted by Running Fitness magazine whose Deputy Editor attended the event (her daughter was just beaten into third place by Molly Farrell’s excellent performance in the under11’s race).
