I was washing my hair with a new (to me) shampoo recently and thought, “I need to write a blog post gushing about some of the things I’m using and loving lately!” So here we are! I really love this shampoo. I pair it with Pureology Hydrate conditioner ( my most loved, most used, always need to have in my shower conditioner ). I like that it makes my hair feel light and lifted, without being too squeaky clean and staticky. This was the shampoo I was using when I thought about writing this very blog post. A few people in my DM’s recommended Kevin Murphy root lifter, so while I was shopping for ..read more

For the Love of Pink Lipstick

I have struggled to find a great drugstore pink lipstick that I love. And trust me, I have LOOKED. The L’Oreal lipsticks have way too much fragrance for me, and other brands’ soft pinks tend to either look mauve or too brown on me. I have, though, found a handful of wonderful pink lipsticks from Sephora and will share the round up below. When I’m looking for a pink lipstick, I don’t want it to be too bumble gum, too brown, or too beige. I want a classic true pink that is wearable for every day. My most recent addition is Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick 2 in Dancefloor Princess. It’s what ..read more

I feel like I’m jumping the gun here a little bit but I’m going to go ahead and share my top 8 beauty discoveries of the year. Why eight? Because K8’s Top 8 sounded better than K8’s top 10. Without further ado, I give you my top 8 beauty discoveries of the year! Osea Body Oil – This body oil has turned me into someone who will not skip moisturizing after the shower. I walked into Blue Mercury at Fenton in search of a body cream but left with this oil after being strongly influenced by the employee working there that day. Not only does it smell like an actual dream come true, but it hydrates m ..read more

It feels like a never ending stream of new and improved skincare products and methods, and while I love to try new things, there are a few things that have been consistent for me for the last little while. Below, I’m breaking down what I do, and don’t do, to my skin! Always: wash my face before bed – and I always wear wrist scrunchies so water doesn’t run down my arms! moisturize after washing my face in the morning – I’ve been using PTR Waterdrench for months and love it. apply SPF – I love Kosas Dreambeam or EltaMd wash body in the shower apply a lip mask before bed – the laneige lip mask i ..read more

Is your hair brassy? Or is it burnt?
The Small Things Blog » Beauty

A few years ago I commented to my hairstylist that my blonde seemed to be turning brassy and dull faster than usual. “Well, it almost looks like it’s burnt,” he said. And it was like a lightbulb went off in my head. It did look burnt. And it made sense that despite using treatments and products at home to keep my blonde pure and toned, it was still looking a tiny bit orange. I got serious about scaling back on the amount of heat I was using, which was already on the lower end of the spectrum but my fragile hair was proving to not be able to handle it well. The right combination of lower heat ..read more

Eyeshadow palettes are better than ever with high-performing shades, combinations of shimmery finishes and matte basics, and even an inclusion of creams! These are a few palettes I have and love. Read why I like them in the caption below each photo. I believe this Too Faced Natural Eyes palette is the oldest of the bunch. It’s one of those palettes I just cannot get rid of. I love the soft browns and the darker shades for the times I’m doing a more dramatic eye look. “Cashmere bunny” and “Strip poker” are my favorite shades from this palette. Another Too Faced palette I like is the Born Thi ..read more

My Shoulder-Grazing Bob Haircut

Without a doubt, this is my personal favorite length of hair. It’s quick and easy to style, I have options of different things I can do with it, and I love the look of a shoulder-grazing bob on me. It’s cut on a gradual, slight angle getting a little longer towards the face. There is very minimal layering and a barely-there face frame as well. The post My Shoulder-Grazing Bob Haircut first appeared on The Small Things Blog ..read more

I take my beauty recommendations very seriously. I don’t recommend things unless I’ve had time with them, and I always try to give enough context for the recommendation so you can make an informed decision about whether or not a product is right for you! I have been interested in ALL the beauty things since I was a young girl. I remember spending time in my bedroom playing around with makeup, trying new hairstyles, and flipping through magazines to see what looks I could copy on my own face and hair. It’s been a little while since I’ve shared a Master List of some of my all-time favorite produ ..read more

Cream Eyeshadow I Can’t Quit

I love wearing cream eyeshadow, not only because it’s easy to apply but also because it lasts all day. It creates a really beautiful base for layering powder shadows on top of it, but can also be worn alone. Below is a list of my favorite colors and formulas of cream eyeshadow: Laura Mercier Au Naturel – probably my most worn color because it really makes blue eyes pop! Laura Mercier Caramel – a gorgeous warm shade of toffee. Merit Vachetta – this is a rich warm brown, looks great with a nude lip. Merit Studio – this is almost exactly the same as Laura Mercier Au Naturel! Bobbi Brown Nude Be ..read more
