Hey everyone,
My friends at UChicago Harris seem to be having a hard time getting call backs, interviews and internships. They’re getting close to graduating now and some have reached out asking about leads or how to network into a job.
Are other grads also experiencing this? Is this a US phenomenon or maybe a Midwest dilemma? What are some key success factors for you if you are hearing back? Any advice from your career offices as you all graduate ?
Asking for friends freaking out.

Hi, so I've spent my time in college going for a bachelors in Finance and got a job in corporate as an investment analyst making $85k. Is there space for me to get into careers related with public policy with a finance degree? I really want to pursue a masters in public policy but I want to know the job scope and what opportunities i have with a masters in public policy and a bachelors in finance. The reason for pursuing a public policy degree stems upon the fact that I do not enjoy corporate finance as much. Im constantly sitting behind a computer and doing the same thing every day like a ro ..read more

I am 29 years old with 5 years of work experience in the development sector. I have received admission offers from the Harris MPP program with a partial scholarship and the Columbia SIPA MPA program with no scholarship. tried my luck with top MBA programs but failed. Currently, I am torn between choosing the MPA program at SIPA and the MPP program at Harris. I would appreciate your honest suggestions.

Hi. It is my first application cycle and I got waitlisted at UVA Batten, what are the chances of getting off the waitlist? And what about the financial aid (if at all)
Also, anyone else in the same position?

Has anyone gotten involved in economic policy work via a political economy degree? On the surface, the topics seem related, but I am not sure whether the more research-focused political economy degrees are actually relevant to policymaking/policy analysis roles. Thanks!

I have an impression that local citizens with local MPA degrees would be preferred for a government job but what if I do a PhD in Public Admin/Policy. Would there be any restrictions based on citizenship?
I have option to do Masters in CS or Public Admin and I have to choose a degree that will help me settle abroad via PhD route. I'm passionate about academics and making society better so I think l'll survive PhD

I'm a bit torn about attending grad school and was hoping to get some insights.
I currently work as a contractor with federal health agencies doing software/technical analyses. In the future, I'd like to go into management at a health tech or large non-profit org. I was accepted into NYU Wagner's part-time health policy MPA - which is basically 100% covered by scholarship and my employee benefits. I would have to stay at my current employer for 2 years after I finished, as repayment for them supporting me (acceptable, not ideal).
I've gotten mixed advice - some saying MPA is not needed for th ..read more

As many in this sub have pointed out, much of the discussion here revolves around career and postgrad advice. In collaboration with some of the mods here, we decided to start a sister subreddit as a dedicated space for discussions of public policy matters. Posts are flailed for various topics and users can receive verified flairs for their credentials. Please have a look if you’re interested! I think this could be a really awesome space if we garner enough interest and activity

I posted this in r/jobs, too, but haven't received any input. I'll do my best to not write a novel but I apologize in advance is this TLDR. I've dedicated my life to public service and don't know how to progress from where I am to working in Public Policy. Identifying, analyzing, and advocating for policy amendments, abolishment, and implementation to better protect the American people's interests is my greatest ambition. My Member doesn't have any openings to become a Legislative Assistant, and honestly after seeing how many Members' offices treat their staff, especially those on the Green ..read more
