Three-fund strategy to bind them all

I’m pretty sure Sauron had no need to invest money. But if he did, he’d probably use a three-fund strategy despite being an evil genius. Investing often seems daunting and complex. But it can also be simple. Simple you say? There are ETFs, IRAs, Roths, REITs, Stocks, Expense Ratios, Unrealized Gains, Capital loss, CAGRs, Small Cap, Large Cap, Mid Cap, Short-Term, Long-Term, Intermediate-Term, TIPS, T-Bills, T-Notes, CDs, Cash and many more. What’s simple about all that? Now don’t confuse simple with easy. I mean running a marathon is simple, you just keep running until you cross the finish li ..read more

New stock purchasing rules
Dividend Life

In March this year I changed my stock purchasing rules for individual stocks (yes, again). Here are the new rules and the reasoning behind them. Please keep in mind my individual stocks are restricted to being about 10% of my Income Fund. So this is a fairly small component of the overall holdings and won’t have a major impact. The individual stocks I own are income-focused, although they tend towards lower (and hopefully more sustainable) dividend yields rather than high yields. This isn’t an especially efficient approach – arguably while accumulating wealth before retirement it’s better to ..read more

OK, I know. It’s practically Summer of 2019 and here I am writing a New Year post. But I’m trying to catch up so I have to live in the past for a couple more months. I think Financial Independence is a journey than a destination, so here are some changes I’ll be making for 2019. 2019 – Budget 19.0 My 2018 budget was set at $4,040 a month. I’m increasing the 2019 Budget to $4,120 per my Goals. This is a nominal 2% yearly increase with some rounding down to make a ‘nice’ number. Multiplying the monthly budget of $4,120 by 12 gives an annual income of $49,440. This value is tracked as ..read more
