With a range of work to help create lasting stylized imagery that helps to build brands and a style that tells a story of a brand or business. Additionally I took time this year to work along side the great people at Wonderful Machine to help make my website look its best. I spent a lot of time culling and curating my past work with the help of their team to br ..read more

May is National Burger Month! A tricky thing to photograph, but I always love the challenge. History With temperatures starting to get warmer, it only feels natural to head out to that grill and throw on some burgers! It has become an American staple for comfort food. And even though it's origins are disputed, it doesn't change how much we love them now. The burger origins seem to indicate that it was originally made from scraps of or trash meat, ground up and sold as a patty to those who couldn't afford the more prime cuts used for steaks. The burger now is being created by chefs with the hig ..read more

The Power of Light

A general motivation for me when lighting things to be photographed is 2 fold. First, I tend to like things to be lit in a way that seems natural to the scene and continues the mood the client is looking to portray. Obviously, if the subject is in a studio, well then that doesn't matter as much. Secondly, I like to highlight certain aspects of the subject. If it's a portrait, I like to highlight the best features of the face. If it's a product, I need to show off the form and logo. When I start off lighting a product in a way that I'm trying to compliment the lighting in the scene, I look at m ..read more

The longer I'm in this photography career, the more I push to reach higher quality with my work. I guess I've always strived for a higher quality, not perfection mind you because there is no such thing, but just a higher quality look and feel to my photography above what I had been doing or seeing around me. However, the more that social media trends tend to drive businesses and the need for more frequent assets is put upon businesses, the more it seems like people are looking for bulk amounts of photos and video, no matter the quality. So, it got me thinking, are trends that are moving more t ..read more

My simple answer when people ask if I ever shoot "Natural Light" portraits is, pretty much never. This is for several reasons which can be due to time, technical factors but mostly for aesthetic reasons. Below I'll go through some of these factors and explain why it's just not for me. Can you spot the Natural light image in the 3 below? (It was the the 3rd one.) Let me get one thing off my chest before I get into the details of using different light sources. Understanding Photographer Travel for Marketing

I travel a lot for my photography and videography business clients. Whether it's my personal vehicle, train or plane, most of my work is done on location. While I used to have a brick and mortar studio, I found that most of the time I wasn't working in it. So, the expense of it just didn't seem to make sense. I now have a small home studio for photographing and filming some products for clients, while renting space from a few local studios when necessary for larger shoots. But most of today I wanted to tell you what goes into most of my travel for shoots and how I come up with which gear I'm ..read more

Photography and Video assets are the best ways to get your business noticed. Every marketing agency is requesting that photographers also shoot video and videographers shoot photos. While these two jobs are very different in many ways, some clients either don't have the budget for two full crews, don't understand how different these two jobs actually are and the different amount and types of equipment that each requires or just think that you can pull still clips from video and make the photo quality good enough for all marketing efforts.
