Today I am very pleased to present the work of Joseph Podlesnik. As always this piece, an introduction to his work, will initiate SnappedAway In Depth Series of posts: first an interview, then an opportunity to showcase one project and finally a selection of one photo picked from the images published, which will be later printed on a t-shirt. Here is a photographer whose work stopped me with the strength of its silence. Joseph Podlesnik’s images seem to be confident without being pushy. It’s almost like he does not care about our opinions or ideas, he just does what n ..read more

Today as Part 3 of our In Depth Series with Robert Rutöd we present his “Right Time Right Place” project. This is what Robert writes about the project himself: “Right Time Right Place is a collection of photographs I made in the last few years on my travels through Europe. The images revolve around the question of whether it is possible for a person to be in the right place at the right time. Is the ideal state of space and time something we are awarded or is it a state we have long been living in without being aware of our good fortune? I hope I have not succeeded in answering this ..read more

Part 2 of SnappedAway In Depth Series with Robert Rutöd. We talk about stories, interactions and setting boundaries. Can you briefly introduce yourself and your photography style to our readers?I  am a photographer and filmmaker from Vienna. In my work I shed light on the paradox that is the human race with its sometimes tragicomic facets. How did you get interested in photography? And why did you pick photography as a medium and a form of expression? It was discovering the photographs by painter René Magritte and writer Paul Nougé at age 16, 17 that showed me the possibilities o ..read more

Robert’s work captivated me straight away, I must admit. I like several things about it, but if I were to put in a single sentence, what spoke to me most was his ability to conceal difficult questions as simple, seemi ..read more

Today as Part 3 of our In Depth Series with Valdimar Thorlacius we present his “I – One” project. This is what Valdimar writes about the project himself: A small town has evolved surrounding an active geothermal area in the South of Iceland. The town was named Hveragerði, a name closely linked to thermal activity whereas hver means a hot spring in Icelandic.  Hveragerði is now and has always been close to Road 1 or the Ring Road as we call the main road that circles Iceland connecting its inhabitants.  The town has always been considered a place of interest.  It’s a pl ..read more

Part 2 of SnappedAway In Depth Series with Valdimar Thorlacius. We talk about stories, interactions and setting boundaries. Can you briefly introduce yourself and your photography style to our readers?I live in Iceland, in a small town east of Reykjavik, called Hveragerði. I´m a pretty active person, I´m driven by the extremes of Icelandic nature and weather and I spend as much time outside as plausible. Doing all kinds of stuff, manly surfing, biking, snowboarding and hiking. And of course photographing, I´m a documentary photographer, I tell stories with photographs combined with text ..read more
