November 23, 2023: Philanthropists, Julia and Hans Rausing, have today announced grants of £8.7 million to 27 hospices across the UK to help them meet the significant increase in their day-to-day costs, brought about by inflation and high energy prices. Hospices in particular need of support were identified by the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust, working with the charity Hospice UK. Scotland’s newest hospice has set out ambitious plans to help even more people at their time of greatest need. Kilbryde Hospice has been providing services to people across South Lanarkshire – a population of 360,000 – since 2008. From 16/5/23, following new Scottish Government guidance, we are delighted to announce, that Hospice visitors and all clinical and nursing staff within the Hospice building and out in the community in people’s homes, do not need to wear a facemask. There will be some occasions when we will require you to wear face masks or ask you when you visit the hospice to wear a face mask, but this will be based on clinical need and current infection prevention control guidance. Hospice leaders across Scotland are today (Wednesday 1 March) calling on the Scottish Government to continue their support to Scottish Hospices by providing a sustainable funding commitment in the face of a looming palliative care crisis. It is with great sadness that we share the news that one of our trustees, Joe Lowe, has died after a short illness. Joe supported the Kilbryde Hospice appeal from its outset in 2001 and became a trustee in 2013. During his time with Kilbryde, he played a key role in the delivery of our 12-bed hospice building here in East Kilbride. Joe was a great advocate of all things Kilbryde. The team at St Andrew’s, Kilbryde, and Strathcarron Hospices are delighted to have received a further award from The National Lottery Improving Lives Community Fund to continue their Compassionate Lanarkshire (CLAN) project for the next three years. South Lanarkshire’s Hospice has been accredited as providing the very highest levels of patients’ experience of care in a new report by Healthcare Improvement Scotland.  People’s experience of care and the involvement of carers and families, as well as the leadership of improvement and change at the Hospice, received the very highest ‘Exceptional’ accolades following a two-day unannounced inspection in July this year.
