Nestled in the northwest of Spain, the lush region of Asturias seems to have it all. Known as "Spain's natural paradise", Asturias is home to breathtaking scenery, colorful fishing villages, outdoor adventures, and most importantly (in my opinion), renowned gastronomy. Whether you're an adventure enthusiast or simply a connoisseur of sidra and Cabrales cheese, you won't be disappointed by the sublime beauty of Asturias.    Colorful Cudillero During my three years living in Madrid, I was lucky enough to visit Asturias twice. On the first trip, a group of us ..read more

Estonia had never been at the top of my travel wish list, but when I was living in Stockholm in 2018, I knew I had to take advantage of its proximity. My best friend Solomon had come to visit me in Sweden, and Tallinn enticed us as an ideal weekend getaway.  Part of its allure was how off the beaten path it sounded at the time. Hardly anyone I knew had been to Tallinn, and my thought process was pretty much along the lines of, "Well, why the hell wouldn't I visit Estonia?" We arrived in Tallinn with absolutely zero expectations, but we left completely blown away.   Everythi ..read more

A Parisian Reverie

Where's the first place you're going to visit when it's safe to travel again?  My list is steadily growing. Going back to Stockholm to visit one of my best friends. Taking a mother + daughter pilgrimage to Italy. Indulging in a tropical vacation, perhaps to Mexico or Costa Rica. And of course, Paris. Without a question. I could spew vitriol about the show Emily in Paris for days. (And if you watch my Instagram Stories, you've probably seen me do just that.) Aside from it being a gross misrepresentation of life abroad and a general abomination, its appeal - however basic it may be - il ..read more

Norway's Natural Paradise

Exactly two years ago, I was working in Stockholm and venturing to Norway for my Easter holidays. Little did I know that two years later, I'd be stuck inside during a global pandemic, relishing every last sweet morsel of my recent travel memories. Scandinavia has always held a special place in my heart. Previously, my separate trips to Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden all coincidentally aligned with various major (and sometimes tumultuous) transitions in my life, and each destination managed to instill a sense of calm in me. Norway was no exception. As I sit here in quarantine, reminiscing abo ..read more

Four Days in Tokyo

Wandering through Tokyo, I feel as if I've landed on another planet. The cacophony assaults my senses. A sea of pedestrians crashes towards me in waves. Sirens roar, giant televisions blare, and a kaleidoscope of technicolor billboards bombard me at every corner. Fascinating yet exhausting, the energy of the city simultaneously intoxicates and drains me. DAY ONE: AKIHABARA, UENO, & YANESEN Otherworldly Akihabara As a solo traveler, I typically like to start my trips with a free walking tour so I can wrap my head around my destination's history, and possibly meet some new trave ..read more

Exploring Colorful Kyoto

I'm overcome with a sense of calm as soon as I step off the bullet train in Kyoto. The city is filled with quiet alleys, mountainous vistas, and ornate vermilion temples juxtaposed with tranquil zen gardens. Charming, humble, and enchanting, the serene storybook escapes of Kyoto are the antithesis of Tokyo's organized chaos. DAY ONE: KIYOMIZU-DERA TEMPLE As opposed to jet lag, does train lag exist? Maybe my brain is still catching up to the speed of the bullet train. Or perhaps I'm still recovering from the sensory overload of Tokyo. Four straight days in the bustling capital was ..read more

A Mediterranean Paradise in Malta

During my whirlwind two months of living in Stockholm in the spring of 2018, I spent my weekends bouncing through the Baltics and exploring the rest of Scandinavia. But given that spring in Sweden is equivalent to winter in Los Angeles, I was in desperate need of sunshine. On a whim, I booked spontaneous tickets to the cheapest and warmest corner of Europe Ryanair would fly to: Malta. Little did I know that this would become one of my new all-time favorite destinations. VALLETTA With its honey colored limestone houses, sapphire harbor, and cascades of bougainvillea crawling up ..read more
