One of our dear patients Chris Hunt, 72, who is with us receiving palliative care and treatment for Cancer at Weston Hospicecare told us that his wish is to experience a last ride in Weston as a lifelong biker. We have been in touch with our local biker community and they have stepped up to organise an impromptu meet this weekend in Weston. This year, marathon runner Danny Street is set to complete the Tokyo, Paris, London, and Chicago marathons all in support of North Somerset-based Weston Hospicecare. Danny is part of a team of directors at local motor company Howards Motor Group, that are supporting Weston Hospicecare. He has been running since 2015 when he completed his very first half marathon and has not looked back. Danny has since completed an impressive number of 28 marathons to total and achieved his 4-star medal. A lady from Wrington who is taking part in Weston Hospicecare’s Strictly Fun Dancing next month has said the hospice helped her family at a time of need. Strictly Fun Dancing sees amateur couples train for ten weeks to learn ballroom dancing with professional teachers from Salsa Vida prior to taking part in a Grand Finale. Penny Gunter’s husband Malcolm was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in May 2017. Roughly a year later, he died after spending just a few hours at Weston Hospicecare’s In-patient Unit (IPU). Weston Hospicecare has today (29 September) officially opened its new Day Services facility within Jackson-Barstow House in Uphill following a major redevelopment. The move will transform care in the region by providing patients with improved access to specialist care and quality of support after a life-limiting illness diagnosis. The Day Services allow patients to visit the hospice weekly and have access to a range of activities, complementary therapies, specialist information and advice, medical consultations, and peer support.
