Hi all. I was able to do some more quick sessions today. The first one was very emotional. I have decided to declutter a punch bowl set from the late 70's/early 80's. The story is that my brother and I gave it to my mom when we were little kids. About 20 years ago, my mom gave it to me. I never used it, but couldn't get rid of it. My husband has often begged me to let it go. We'll, today was the day. I opened the cabinet, looked at it and said to myself "This isn't going to burden me anymore. She didn't want it anymore, and neither do I. I can let this go." This gave me motivation to also dec ..read more

A while back, I purchased a bunch of things from various websites and catalogs. Just as they started arriving in the mail, I went through a death in my immediate family and right after that I was seriously ill for several months, so nothing - and I mean nothing - got done. I’m better now and I’m starting a major decluttering project that is very much overdue. Unfortunately, as I’ve started to go through the stuff I ordered, I’m finding that I want to return a lot of it (stuff doesn’t fit, etc)…but the window of time in which the companies will accept returns is long over. I wrote and asked fo ..read more

I feel like I still have so much to do. But things look better already so even if I don't get it where I'd ideally like, it's the push I'll still be thankful for.
I had too many things on my countertops, so I opened a cabinet I hadn't looked closely at since last year. I had kept some spare Tupperware that I never used. Out the door it went! I took out a bunch of recycling, too!
Hoping to get many more things out the door before the weekend!
I've been super hesitant about buying anything for storage/organization, but I just installed a new shelf so that I could store some things I know I will ..read more

I don't understand why I kept the plates from my cars when I lived in another state. I found my first car's plates from 2010(ish) when I lived in another state, and then the plates from my second car after I moved to my current state. I totally forgot I even had them in a box in the garage. Why do we keep these things? Luckily I'm taking them with me to the tax office today to be rid of them, since I have to pick up my custom plates.
I also think I will take the doll from this post to donate this morning before work if I have time.

Piano no. 1 - a Yamaha upright. This piano was gifted to me by my aunt (not close). Had it since I was 6. Been through a lot of exams and competitions with this piano, and a lot of lonely and sad days. Quality still good.
Piano no. 2 - an upright, brand unknown. My husband got it for me when we were dating (he got it for free from a website but I really appreciated his gesture and was very touched). Did not spend a lot of time on this piano. Quality not as good as the Yamaha.
Piano no. 1 was kept in my parents’ home but now they are moving soon to a smaller place and I have to choose one to l ..read more

Today I got 4 large kitchen trash bags and 1 diaper box full of donations out of my house and to the donation center. Before leaving home, I also did some additional work in my closet, which allowed me to add 2 pairs of pants and 2 sweaters to the bag. I also added some kids clothes, unused/unopened toiletries, a pair of shoes, and some small toys. While tidying up the living room I was able to gather another large bag of toys. Lastly, I decluttered a DOOM box that had been sitting in the trunk of my car for over a year. My grandmother passed away in March of 2023, and it was a box of stuff f ..read more

I graduated two years ago and am thinking that its' been two years since I looked at most of my textbooks. In theory, I was keeping them for reference, but I haven't touched them and most of them I don't see myself using ever. I know my school was phasing a lot of the books out when I was graduating. Any other schools that use said books probably require updated versions by now. I doubt somewhere like Saint Vincent's would take/want them. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

So two or three times in the last 10 years, I've "pruned" my wardrobe, but ended up keeping so many things because:
"the colour is so nice"
"I loved wearing this [when I was 25]"
"it makes me remember a really nice time when I wore it [in 2015]"
"a family member I like gave it to me [eleven years ago]"
"but I spent so much on it!"
etc.
Every morning when I went to get dressed I would open the closet and just feel stressed and down, because (I now realise) I didn't actually like WEARING so many of them.
Yesterday I went through EVERYTHING in my closet and actually asked myself:

Any tips for someone who hoards clothes? My issue is emotional attachment. I see something my grandmother got me years ago and don’t have the heart to get rid of it. I’m an extremely sentimental person who hates letting go of things. Any tips or advice? How did you declutter your closet?

Here I am thinking I'll take a stab at the storage room today, I tidy a little, post a few things up on the internet, select a box - books. That shouldn't be too bad. I've did all the bookshelves upstairs... there will be a little space and the rest can go. I'm a moron.
By books I apparently meant 'yearbooks and other 20 year old nostalgia'. Many, many drawings spanning 10+ years. Journals from school, written by 8 year old me. All kinds of designs and projects and dreams. I was slicing an older drawing book apart to remove the metal spine of the thing, and cut my favourite pair of pants.
