New advice line for people accessing hospice care

A new phone line and increase of specialist clinicians will make it easier for patients, relatives and health care professionals to access palliative and end of life care advice across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.   The new number goes live today (Monday January 22nd) and is 0300 561 2900.  Specialist palliative care services are provided across the area by four organisations: Douglas Macmillan Hospice in Stoke-on-Trent; Katharine House Hospice in Stafford; St Giles Hospice near Lichfield, and Compton Care in Wolverhampton.  They currently have four different adviceline ..read more

Children and families supported by St Giles Hospice have been treated to a special day out, thanks to March of the Elephants presenting partner, The SnowDome.   They were invited to attend the Snowdome’s ‘Winter Wonderland’ experience, which offers families a fully immersive experience, complete with real snow, animals, a carousel, and a show.  Rebecca Mellor visited with her two young sons. Professor Cara Bailey has been appointed as Professor of End of Life Care at St Giles Hospice. The post is a joint appointment with the University of Birmingham.  In the role, Professor Bailey will work with St Giles two days a week, to support the Hospice to become more research active and build an enhanced local, regional and national research profile.   Professor Bailey is currently Professor of End of Life Care and Postgraduate Research Lead for the University of Birmingham School of Nursing and Midwifery. Patients and their loved ones at St Giles Hospice will now be able to enjoy new revamped and rejuvenated areas around the hospice, thanks to Inco Contracts.   St Giles Hospice in Whittington has received a mini-makeover by a refurbishment company following the death of one of the firm’s site managers.  The hospice has been caring for local people, and their loved ones, living with a terminal illness for 40 years.  Staff from Inco Contracts spent two days volunteering their time at St Giles, to thank staff for the care they provided to one of their site managers, Paul Finc ..read more
