I had to go into Byres Road in the west end of Glasgow a few weeks ago and used the subway to get there from Partick Underground Station. I've taken photographs of the trendy enclave of Ashton Lane before ( situated just behind Byres Road) but never been completely happy with them. It is a popular place full of bars, restaurants, shops etc... so there's always people milling aro ..read more

For the first time in years I took a trip on Glasgow's Underground. The 'Clockwork Orange'. So named because it travels round in a circle connecting the city centre and inner city districts on both banks of the River Clyde and it's orange. I was curious to see if my over 60s ticket would still work as so many train stations these days are fully automated with ticket machines onl ..read more

All last summer of 2023 we motored past Corlick Hill in Alan's car heading for other hills in the area. Corlick was missed out as it didn't look that impressive, being just a smooth grassy slope with a track running up it to an invisible summit out of sight. With a multitude of better looking small hills to bag it was only when we'd climbed them and seemed to be running out of hill walking options that Corlick Hill was conside ..read more

A drive to Balloch this time and a walk exploring Loch Lomond Country Park and Whinny Hill. Large car park in Balloch just off the main street at the entrance to the park.
Whinny Hill walk, which is an extended add on to the park walk. I notice in some maps/booklets it's spelt Whinney Hill.
Heavy rain and storms the night before so the lower path beside the River Leven, wher ..read more

A water adventure this time as Alan has a small boat so we motored up the west coast of Scotland a few weeks ago.
Fresh snow on the mountains but in general it's been a very mild winter thus far in the UK which is a bonus for people struggling with excessive heating bills.
We pi ..read more

This is Alan and myself driving up to the 'car park in the sky' above Paisley on the B775 which leads up to Gleniffer Braes public park. I read recently that the five best views of Scottish cities according to one popular newspaper was No 1:- Edinburgh from Arthur's Seat... No 2... Glasgow from Cathkin Braes...Stop!!!... at which point I was both happy and outraged. Happy because I knew it wasn't true yet would ..read more

One walk we did in the late Autumn of 2023 that I've only got around to posting now. A lovely day and a walk in Renfrewshire I hadn't done before which is an unusual event for me. Alan's Dad showed us this walk which runs round the mostly decommissioned Bishopton Royal Ordnance site. Being MOD propert ..read more

Ben Lomond in winter from Kilmacolm. It's been years since either Alan or myself visited Kilmacolm and the nearby Knapps Loch and Glen Moss. This is good however as it stops any over-familiarity with this area creeping in. I always take loads of photographs in this part of Inverclyde and Renfrewshire. Regional boundaries have changed here over time but in my own head I've always ..read more

A rainbow. For a change in the blueskyscotland universe it was a decidedly mixed day with heavy showers forecast. As neither Alan or myself fancied getting soaked up a hill we decided on a flat walk from Newark Castle (Fyfe Shore. A small car park just a half km up river from castle, yet still next to the water's edge) Although we've both been in Port Glasgow numerous times neither of us had ..read more

A trip completed about a month ago to visit Whitelee Wind Farm, The UK's largest onshore turbine location so worth a day out. A new destination for Alan as he was curious about it. A second visit for me, decades apart. Anyone who reads this blog already knows I love ..read more
