Using Card Control Logic in SOLIDWORKS PDM
Javelin Technology
by Michael Koenig

Control logic provides the ability to dynamically show, hide, or disable a data card control by specifying one or more conditions. In the example below, we’ll use two radio buttons on a file card to display whether a document is approved or rejected. If it’s approved, then we’ll also display the approver’s name. If it’s not approved, then there is no need to show a blank approver. In that case, we’ll hide the Approved By control using Control Logic. Data Card Example In the Card Editor, the controls appear as follows. Data Card Controls The Caption property of the radio buttons becomes the ..read more

Why Training Matters: We Don’t Know What We Don’t Know
Javelin Technology
by Sawyer Gara
2w ago
People always say “Hindsight is 20:20” and “If I knew then what I know now” referring to something that could have been easily solved some time ago if they only had the training they had today. I’m sure that everyone reading this has had a situation recently that could have been avoided if only they knew a certain piece of information or a certain “trick of the trade”. As Designers, Draftsmen and Engineers, our greatest weaknesses are the things we are not aware of: those being things we might not know much about or even know they exist.  Whenever an issue arises, the pool of potential so ..read more

Using SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services with PDM
Javelin Technology
by Ray Morrogh

SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services, now included with every newly purchased license of SOLIDWORKS, encompass a whole host of cloud and browser-based tools for SOLIDWORKS. When most people think of 3DEXPERIENCE, they immediately think of data management as well. While 3DEXPERIENCE can be used to store and revise your CAD data, that doesn’t mean that it’s only for managing data. The toolset it offers to users can even sit on top of any existing data management infrastructure you have. SOLIDWORKS PDM and 3DEXPERIENCE aren’t mutually exclusive, and here are some of the ways you can take advantage of the cl ..read more

How to project a SOLIDWORKS Sketch onto a Curved Surface using Split Line
Javelin Technology
by Brandee Videcak
1M ago
There are times when creating different models and parts that surfaces and solids are not always squared away, but have a round curve or surface. Have you tried to apply an extrude boss or cut onto a curved surface, but not have been successful? Fear not, as there is a way to get a sketch projected onto the curved surface, to allow the manipulations you are looking to achieve. This uses the Split Line command to create the projection and uses the new sketch for any new feature needed. For this example, we will be using a sphere as our base object. Create a Sketch Once you have your base object ..read more

Understanding the shift from Configuration to CAD Family in SOLIDWORKS
Javelin Technology
by Jorge Villacres
1M ago
If you’ve recently opened SOLIDWORKS and found yourself facing the CAD Family Tab instead of the familiar Configurations Tab, you’re not alone. Many users are navigating this change, brought about by updates in the SOLIDWORKS software. This blog aims to clarify what SOLIDWORKS CAD families, physical products, and representations are and how to manage this new default setting. In simple terms: The 3DEXPERIENCE platform views your parts and assemblies as CAD families. Configurations are now displayed as physical products, each with its own part number on a bill of materials. A representation is ..read more

If you have ever needed to restore deleted PDM users that have been prematurely deleted in previous versions of PDM you were pretty much out of luck and all you could do was to create a new user with an identical name. This recreated user wasn’t exactly the same as the deleted user, it has some limitations. In SOLIDWORKS PDM 2024, there is a new feature that will allow you to restore the deleted user permissions and all. Alternatively, if you want to delete the user permanently, please view this article. For all who need a quick reminder on how to delete users please see the following steps ..read more
