My Favourites of 2012 | Bumps

2012 wasn’t a huge year for photographing maternity portraits; in fact, with the exception of my sister Daphné and my best friend Sara, who each did a Bump Watch throughout the year, I only photographed 2 expectant mommas. This makes me kind of sad since I LOVE photographing pregnant women. They are beautiful and it’s all so exciting and new, especially for the ‘first timers’. Maybe 2013 will be the ‘year of the bump’, but until then, enjoy a few of my favourite maternity shots from last year! (Because I started photographing Sara and Daf at 12 weeks, they don’t necessarily look pregnant in e ..read more

BUMP WATCH Recap [Personal Project]

I just realized the other day that I never posted all of these shots together, so I thought now would be a good time, considering miss Violet is almost 6 months old already! Looking back on these photos makes me think two things: 1) I am SO glad that I documented my last pregnancy in this way, even if I didn’t manage to keep up with the weekly shots at the end, and 2) I am SO glad that I don’t have to be pregnant ever again! I plan on taking these shots (plus all of the additional ones for every week) and making a photobook out of them as a keepsake for Violet to look back through one ..read more

My very last session of 2018 was a last minute booking that I honestly almost bailed on (by Christmas I’m pretty much ready to be done with my camera for a bit), but I am so, so, so, so GLAD I did because I got to see an old high school classmate and meet his GORGEOUS fiancé Katie. They currently live way up north and were home visiting family, so we kept the location very simple, wandering around Nate’s mom’s snowy (and a bit slushy) backyard. On top of the giddiness of a recent engagement, they were also celebrating the upcoming arrival of their little girl, due in the Spring! So much excit ..read more

I’ve been in business for 8 years now, which sometimes feel like forever and I feel like I belong to another ‘time’ when it comes to photography. The industry has changed so much over the last half decade and there are more talented working photographers around than ever; this can be scary to someone like me, but I have been fortunate enough over the past couple of years (who knows how long now?!) to be a part of a great group of local photographers who I consider friends and colleagues and definitely not competition. In fact, we actively encourage, refer, guide and help each other to be bett ..read more

Waiting for baby | Laisia and Jay [Apohaqui, NB Maternity Photographer]

These young, adorable (and so-in-love) people are going to be welcoming their first baby this spring, and I was thrilled when Laisia’s mom decided to get her daughter a gift certificate for maternity and newborn photos! It’s such a nice idea for a shower gift, and hopefully they will enjoy the images for years to come! We met up at a local park last month back when we still had a bit of snow but the teeniest signs of spring were starting to emerge (we were able to be without heavy coats, mainly.) I love shooting by the river, I love shooting couples, and I can’t wait to meet their baby boy so ..read more

On top of our outdoor maternity session with her love Dave, Jackie wanted to do some indoor maternity photos, which, besides a few in-home sessions, I had never done, so I was excited to try something new! I experimented with a few different lighting techniques (like the awesome back glow image above and the last image using only rim light), and she looked amazing as always at 35 weeks along. Her little girl is now here and I met her for her newborn session last week; she was so sweet and I’ll be sharing her photos soon, so be sure to check back! I was unsure whether I would share maternity sessions on the blog this year; as part of my “Changes in 2017”, I”m limiting what I share on the blog to only what I really love and want to photograph; originally I thought that maternity would simply be an ‘add on’ session that I would do with newborn images, but in the end I realized that I LOVE this type of photography and want to do more of it, so I’m sharing here in hopes of attracting more mamas who want to capture this very special time in their life! My first maternity session this year was a snowy one with Jackie and Dave. Jackie is ..read more

2015 wasn’t a big year for bumps; only 5 sessions, two in the winter and 3 in the summer/early fall, but they more than made up for the lack of quantity with their quality, every couple was amazing and we lucked out on the weather every time (well, the winter ones had to be rescheduled but that’s normal). I love photographing maternity because it’s basically just a couples shoot with something a little extra to love on, and there’s something so lovely about a pregnant woman out in nature, it’s beautiful, simple as that. Here are a few of my favourite images of various bumps in ’15! The post ..read more

Remember all those sweet babies I shared yesterday? All of them appear in this post as well, as adorable bumps! I had such a wonderful time capturing the pregnancies of so many amazing couples last year, some of them brand new clients, and some of them returning clients (either from previous sessions or wedding couples!) Just like in 2013, I seemed to have had most of my sessions at the beginning and the end of the year, so there was a nice mix of winter and fall sessions but not many summer (just as well, too hot for me and for the mamas-to be!) Anyway, I love photographing pregnant wom ..read more

My favourites of 2013 | Maternity

Pregnant women are beautiful…is there much more that needs to be said? I absolutely love photographing maternity portraits, either alone or with a spouse and/or other children. It’s fun, it’s exciting, it’s romantic, it’s nerve-wracking, it’s effortlessly beautiful, it’s annoying, it’s painful, it’s one of the great moments in a person’s life, and I feel very lucky to be the one to help them remember that time years (and kids) later. Most of my maternity sessions in 2013 were bookends to the year (a few in January and then a bunch in September-October), and I enjoyed working on every single o ..read more
