Elegance & Escapism

Last week while enjoying a few days at the impressive JW Marriott Phu Quoc Resort, the gorgeous wifey and I kindly asked grandma to be on babysitting duty for a bit, she donned some fine garments and we headed out to shoot a few scenes around the property. Designed by famed architect Bill Bensley in his signature style of escapism, every wall, corner, nook and cranny of this place drip with details and decor. Styled as an early 1900s fictional French university, and divided into fields of study, i.e. the bar being the aptly named Department of Chemistry, each building offers different colors ..read more

An Interesting Year To Say The Least.... So the worst kept secret on the planet is that this year kinda….sucked! Of course it started out with good intentions, with work aplenty and travels plans abounding, and then, well we all know what happened! I guess to a certain extent, I have to count my blessings that I spent the year in Vietnam, but watching the situations around the world, especially in my own country, haven’t exactly decreased my stress levels. So, here’s a little look back on the images I was able to make this year. Not as many came from far flung destinations as I hoped, but th ..read more

Just Some Falling Water... It’s no big deal really, just Asia’s largest waterfall!  Ban Gioc waterfall that straddles the border of Vietnam and China is a sight to behold.  It had been on my list for some time now, so once Cao Bang was firmly on the itinerary of the trip, I knew the waterfall had to be too. It’s about a 2 hour drive outside of Cao Bang city, but with many home stays within just a few minutes of the waterfall, it’s easy enough to post up for the night out there. We arrived early afternoon and luckily went to visit it directly, as the rains came in hot and heavy that ..read more

It had been 3 years since I last found myself on two wheels in the mountains of Northern Vietnam, so needless to say, it was overdue time to get back. A few weeks ago, I set out on an epic week long road trip through Ha Giang And Cao Bang Provinces in the rugged North with my friend Lee Starnes. Being a quite unique year to say the least, one of the few benefits of the borders remaining closed was that we had the place almost to ourselves. Come along with me on a little journey through one of the most beautiful parts of the world… The Vistas Are Mildly Decent Upon pulling out of Ha Giang C ..read more

Vietnam handled the virus situation very well it seems, so after about 2 months of staying primarily indoors, the restrictions were finally lifted in late April and by the first week of May, things were pretty much back to normal. So what does a travel photographer do when he’s allowed to travel again? He runs for the first plane out of the city! Last week I joined my friends and partners from Pics Of Asia and we loaded up the car for an awesome road trip from Central Vietnam up the coast to Phong Nha, an area I hadn’t yet visited but was been on my list for a quite a while. We started in Ho ..read more

A Hotel Lobby Wedding Portrait Shoot

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing Ludivine & Aurélien, a lovely just married French couple who’ve recently relocated to Vietnam. We were supposed to do the portrait shoot just prior to their wedding, but a scheduling snafu led us to do just just after the ceremony instead. That’s fine, the important part was that the images were made! They were staying at the luxurious MGallery Hotel Des Arts in downtown Saigon, where their wedding was also held, and were ready to don their dress and suit again to make the photos we weren’t able to a few weeks prior. The shoot wa ..read more

Much like most of the rest of world, we’re staying inside as much as we can at the moment and for the foreseeable future. While Vietnam has relatively few cases, they are still increasing a bit, but it seems the government is doing a great job of handling everything, so we’re grateful for that and mostly just hunkering down for now. So how do you keep a 19 month old tornado and her parents entertained while stuck in on Saturday? I had an idea and I had everything I needed! With a box of fingerpaints that were recently brought over for us, I had a white seamless backdrop, and lighting ..read more
