Hello! I’m currently completing my masters in social work. I’ve completed my undergrad in social work therefore I’m already registered and eligible to practice using the social work title. I was placed with a private practice for my MSW placement, and at the end of my placement they offered me a job. I live over an hour away, however I accepted the job as it will give me some income while I’m still in school and unable to return to full-time work. I’m technically considered an “independent contractor” and not an “employee”, however this is all very new to me & I find the difference betwee ..read more

Excel courses for program management?

Hi! I currently work as a program manager for a small nonprofit organization. One of my goals is to become more proficient in Excel. I know the bare basics but would love to know more about vlookups, pivot tables, and other ways to crunch and display data. Is anyone aware of any quality Excel courses I can take online, on Skillshare or otherwise? Free would be great but I would be willing to pay a fee for a quality course. Bonus points if you took the course yourself and can vouch for its usefulness in your work. submitted by /u/fartonme [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I'm having difficulties with a colleague. Some background: my team is small and we are a new service that isnt well established. We dont have much client interaction at all. A significant aspect of my work involves documenting meeting notes and subsequently passing them on to our report writer. Additionally, I serve as the lead worker for many of these meetings, which entails compiling information and coordinating with relevant stakeholders for their participation. Moreover, I maintain a comprehensive understanding of each client's situation prior to meetings, enabling me to address any conce ..read more

Paying for credentialing?

I was offered a job at a local non profit hospital (per diem; I am employed elsewhere full time.) If I accept this job I am required to pay $110 out of pocket to be credentialed through their medical office. This fee is non negotiable with no reimbursement. It is concerning to me; I was feeling very enthusiastic about the opportunity, but this has given me pause. On the other hand I know $110 is not a ton of money in the grand scheme of things, and I don’t want to turn down a job for a petty or immature reason. I have never experienced this at any other hospital or healthcare entity despite b ..read more

Social work jobs being taken over by NPs, RNs, and paraprofessionals

I began working as social worker in a hospital last year after moving to be closer to my family. This is my first experience working in a medical setting, and it is eye opening to another field of social work outside of my LCSW outpatient therapist role that felt valued and respected. In the medical setting, or at least at this hospital, I feel like social workers are being weeded out for nurses (for hospice, palliative care, and case management roles) or high school graduates (for support roles- such as roles that used to be for social workers that were watered down and relabeled as “patient ..read more

Mom with son (SPMI)

I have a client who sought treatment to learn coping skills on how to deal with her stress due to relationships. But we've only focused on the son. Her (adult) son is experiencing some intense mental health problems, appears to be psychosis of some sort. Could be drug related. She reports that he's says everyone needs to kill themselves - mom, family, friends, himself (no plan). She says she calls MCOT and the police when she's especially!worried, and they always say he's "not in danger of hurting himself." So they leave. She took him to a MH hospital and released him without admission. My un ..read more
