by Sharon Hurley Hall As I create this writing portfolio, I’m near the end of the most unusual February since I started freelancing. It’s usually a slow month for me, coming after the end of year rush, and before many clients have finalized their content strategy for the year.  This month has been different, and it’s all to do with adding another type of writing to the long list of topics I already cover: writing about diversity, equity, and inclusion, and anti-racism.  If you want to know how that all came about, check out this article. The short version is that I let people know I ..read more

by Sharon Hurley Hall Sometimes, I don’t even know why I bother making plans. We’re all fine in my house, but my daughter was at school in the US, and the year’s been bracketed by getting her home safely and then getting her back safely, with the usual lockdown and quarantine stuff in between. While all that was going on, some sure things became less sure in terms of freelance work, though I’m grateful for the clients for whom it was business as usual. You can see what I ..read more

by Sharon Hurley Hall Welcome to my 2020 writing portfolio. You’ll find a mixed bag of articles here. I write mainly for B2B audiences about digital marketing and business topics, but I hate to be pigeonholed, so don’t be surprised to see different topics and B2C writing, as the year progresses. Here’s my bylined work so far this year: Envato Tuts+ I joined the Tuts+ instructor team last year, which is a good fit for me given my teaching experience. My work here includes tutorials  on business software and resource roundups, but there are also articles I’m proud of on diversity and gender equa ..read more

by Sharon Hurley Hall You’ve probably heard it a hundred times: doing business online is all about building trust. As Johnson Kee says, it’s about building a bridge between you and your potential customers. This helps them see how you can help them realize their vision for their lives and businesses. That’s especially true when it comes to online courses. I’m a former university lecturer and in my experience people take courses so they can change or improve something about their lives or work. But there are thousands of online courses out there, and you don’t get much time to make a good impre ..read more

by Sharon Hurley Hall Think about all the landing pages that you’ve visited in your lifetime, whether they’re B2B or B2C. For example, you might feel the need to click on some big news on the landing page. Or you might enter in an email to receive a special offer or communication. Either way, you’ve done what that company wants you to do — you’ve taken action and you’ve converted. This, of course, shows how a landing page can best be used ..read more

by Sharon Hurley Hall Every so often I share a list of the tools and resources that make my life easier. It’s been a couple years since the last update, so I thought I’d share my current list. So if you buy a product after clicking on my link, I might get paid. I’ll highlight those links with “aff”  as you get to them. Scrivener I use Scrivener to keep my writing work organized and I don’t know how ..read more
