Looking for Old Aerial Photos of a Mysterious Building on Holiday - Can Anyone Help?

Hi everyone, I’m currently on holiday and came across a strange building down the road from where we’re staying. We’ve asked some of the locals, but they don’t seem to know much about it. I’m curious about its history and would like to see if anyone has access to old aerial photos of the area. Here’s the link to the location on Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/XZ83fZpjttFVZ87DA?g_st=ic If anyone knows how to find older aerial photos or has any information about this building, I’d really appreciate it. Question about how to display data from CSV file on map
Reddit - Geographic Information Systems

So the data I have is from a CSV file, which shows lobster landings by pound for 10 different states in the year 1970. My map currently has 4 different lobster catching areas (Georges Bank Gear Area, Gulf of Maine gear area, Mid-Atlantic Gear area, and Southern New England Gear Area). I want to assign the data from my CSV file to one of these four catch areas, based on the appropriate state, and display the catch numbers inside this area. Pictures below of the catch areas, and the data table. I'm pretty new to GIS and any tips are greatly appreciated. https://preview.redd.it/2cvezba0e ..read more

GIS Research Question on Measuring and Mapping Gentrification

Hi! I am wanting to find the relationship between public art development and gentrification in 2 cities, and am struggling a bit with developing my methodology. My idea is to look at 2 data factors, the 5 year change in rent cost and the percent change in demographics (race and median income), both by zip code. I have all public art projects for each city mapped out by how expensive they were to build. Would someone be able to give me advice on how to improve this methodology, isolate the public art variable from other developments, and in general be able to draw a stronger conclusion. submi ..read more

Complete Noob Question - Making Maps In Photoshop/Illustrator

Hey all, Sorry if this isn't the right subreddit, I'm just stuck and I'm not sure where is best to ask for help! I'm looking to create this style of map 'collage' as a gift for my partner. I was hoping to find a simple plugin for Photoshop or Illustrator to embed map layers, rather than download everything as seperate images. It would be great to be able to move each of the maps around. Is this even do-able? I've tried looking at ArcGIS Pro / ArcGIS for Maps but having trouble getting them working in Photoshop. Not sure if there's a simpler way to do this. Would greatly appreciate any advice ..read more

I'm preparing for a career fair for highschoolers, mostly 16-18 year olds. What skills should I recommend they pursue for a career in GIS? So far the list is: A bachelor's degree Experience with SQL Experience with ESRI software submitted by /u/IsabelatheSheWolf [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is there anyway to mass identify the places named on this basemap in ArcPro? Just trying to avoid manually creating features for each place.

Montana defines spatial work that is *not* land surveying. Any similar rule in other states?

Here is an interesting idea from the State of Montana survey board to help clarify the kind of spatial work that can be done without needing to be a licensed land surveyor. That board adopted a formal administrative rule listing a variety of spatial work that does not require a licensed surveyor. Here is the rule: https://rules.mt.gov/gateway/RuleNo.asp?RN=24%2E183%2E1111 This rule states the board’s interpretation of the Montana statute that defines the practice of land surveying. To see that statutory definition open the next link and scroll down to: (8) "Practice of land surveying". https ..read more

So I have this code for AGOL that doesn't seem to want to work. I would like it to colorize the text in the popup depending on what data it finds for a column within the feature class. ```var color = 'black'; // Default color if (Contains($feature.Column, 'blue')) { color = 'blue'; // Blue } else if (Contains($feature.Column, 'red')) { color = 'red'; // Red } else if (Contains($feature.Column, 'green')) { color = 'green'; // Green } else if (Contains($feature.Column, '>')) { color = 'purple'; // Purple } else if (Contains($feature.Column, '<')) { color = 'orange'; // Orange } '<span ..read more

Stakeout point for ArcGIS Field Maps
Reddit - Geographic Information Systems

I work for a utility company and I am trying to gather information on if there is a simple way to do so using Field Maps. I’ve found two Esri community forums of surveyors having the same question, but no clear answer. Essentially, we are wanting to be able to input a stakeout point for relocating power poles. This is to ensure accuracy when returning to the point. We use an R2 Trimble Device in the field to collect points, we would also be using that to locate the points after they’ve been “staked out”. Does anyone have any information on how this could be done? Thank you!! submitted by /u ..read more
