I got asked a couple of weeks ago which events I’d be attending next year (2020) and it set off my rage…every year I look to booking some great events and then give up as I fumble through loads of poorly cobbled together websites trying to find when and where the (GIS and Geospatial) events are on.
This year I decided that was the last time…so I cobbled together a Google Calendar of events that I knew about and then with the help of a couple of Twitter friends (many thanks Olga Ostrovna!) I added some more….at the moment I’m at the 40+ mark.

From 30th November, it will be mandatory for all drone ownerss or model aircraft owners of drones/planes weighing more than 250g (8.8oz) up to 20kg (44lbs) to register their details with the CAA (this is called an OperatorID). Owners of unregistered drones after December 1st could then face a fine of up to £2000. Any drone that you are responsible for will need a label placed on it with your OperatorID clearly put on it.

Over the last few months I’ve just had to get my hands dirty again with Mapbox. For those who don’t know what Mapbox is, let me introduce it.
Mapbox is a platform for location-based data. It allows you to host your data with them so that you can stream it into your web maps, and it provides a Mapbox webGL so that you can host your maps using their code for free. The only cost is when you are using their hosting service; you pay a subscription that enables them to pay for their servers and their team, who create the awesomeness. Explain Georeferencing To Me as If I Were a Five-Year-Old
I really liked how Denzel Washington used the phrase “explain this to me as if I were a xxx-year-old” in the movie Philadelphia (1993).
