If you’ve ever flowed with Robin, you’ve probably left class thinking to yourself, “I’ve GOT to know what that song was during that part of class!” Lucky for you, we’re bringing you Robin’s jams in one juicy playlist. All month long, Robin is jamming to tunes by Yuna, Big Wild, Sofi Tukker, Ms. Lauryn Hill, and Sol Rising (and so many other great artists). Pop open Spotify and flow alongside Robin out of the studio everywhere you go, or meet her on the mat at any of her regular class times! Robin teaches Tuesdays at 12 pm, Wednesdays at 8:30 am, 5:30 pm, and 7 pm, Thursdays at 6 am, and every ..read more

Pose Breakdown: Flip Dog

“Bend, stack, and – if you want – flip your dog,” says pretty much every yoga teacher at some point, if not every class, then at least often when they teach. It’s a low-risk “trick” in the world of physical asana that can be fun, feel great, and provide an alternate backbend to the traditional vinyasa flow to give your practice a little more variation. But it tends to be quick, and offered as an option, rather than a dedicated point to break down in a class, which leads a lot of yogis who have never tried it out before to opt for keeping their leg bent and stacked until the class joins them ba ..read more

Get Your Shoulders in Gear with Yoga & Physical Therapy

One of the many things I love about being a part of Team BFPY is the bond among our team of teachers. Not only do we have a great time together, we’re all hungry to learn more together, too. When Body Gears Physical Therapy wanted to team up for a night of learning and collaboration, we were all psyched to get together for it. As a precursor to the workshop with Body Gears at Bare Feet Power Yoga on Saturday, March 14 at 12:30 pm (shameless plug – I’ll be there!) we spent this night of continuing education talking all about the shoulder joint. Here’s some actual footage of me getting ..read more

The Creativity Crisis

By: Haifaa Ghoul Modern life is hectic. As adults, most of us are consumed by attempting to keep up with the pressures and demanding pace of everyday living. We work long hours, try to lead a healthy and active lifestyle, squeeze in a few time blocks to maintain a social life and hopefully get some rest in between. While many challenges result from this fast-paced life, the general lack of activities that nurture our sense of creativity appears to be widespread and not frequently addressed or discussed. So, what is creativity? It is any activity that requires the use of the imaginati ..read more

Valentine’s Day Reflections: What is Love?

By: Alex Sabbag Spoiler alert: I love love. Yes, I know you’re shocked. I recently added “yoga teacher” to my resume and my big reveal is that I love love. I will excuse you while you throw up a little. But alas, it’s true. My mother was a wedding planner and since I was four, I would play with her jewelry, imagining what my wedding would look like. It has been planned and re-planned one hundred times. I remember being at brunch on Easter Sunday a few years ago, fighting with my mother over whether it should be inside or out. Nearing a blowup, my father interjects, citing the argument o ..read more

By: Cara Kalnow Valentine’s Day is a holiday of passion (no, I’m not talking about bedroom activities here!) – so many people have heated opinions of this day. I just talked to my favorite barista at Sawada who is in the gitty stage of a new relationship and she just straight up dissed Valentine’s Day, saying it’s a silly little holiday.  Well this silly little holiday has a strong connection to my deep beliefs about the universe, meaning of life, and my spiritual practice that brings me back to the mat each day – and it all starts with my Grandfather’s funeral.   My Grandfather ..read more

By: Robin Samples The new year welcomes more than just a resolution to get in shape (aka “practice more yoga”). At Bare Feet, we realize so many individuals in our community enter into the new year in search of more mindful eating as a complement to a regular yoga practice.  We are in the midst of the 40 Days to Personal Revolution – a program designed to bring about more awareness, intentional practices like consistent yoga and meditation and of course, mindful eating.  There is a scientifically-proven connection between the brain and gut – called the brain-gut connection – that direct ..read more

By: Maggie Umberger If you know me, you know how much I love to learn. I’ll soak up any training opportunity or experience I can get my hands on, and there’s no deviation from that theme in my life when it comes to yoga. In 2019 I took on a 300-hour extended training with my teacher, Adam Whiting, that focused a whole lot on anatomy, sequencing, and how a better understanding of the subtle body could help you in your yoga teaching (and practicing) journey.  Meanwhile, I’ve also been a regular patient at Delos Therapy, a pain management clinic in Chicago that focuses on alleviating their ..read more
