In case you missed it, I’m starting a new series on my blog that is all based around the recipes I make for us at home. This is a meal that I cooked in the evening for the fam, photographed as quickly as possible, all so I could eat a hot meal with our daughter before it got cold. This is quite different than how I normally make recipes. I normally make them in the day time and eat them at night when they are cold, soggy, and all freshness has been lost. But not with this series. This isn’t about the right photo or the perfect flavor combinations – it’s simply about what I enjoy making and eat ..read more

New blog series coming your way! And this series is all about meals that I make at home for the family, that I really REALLY love. It’s very rare that I make anything extravagant, especially with the stage of life we are in with Avery, but I still want our meals to feel elevated and even elegant. And since I’ve been spending my weekends at the fish market, I’ve been eating way more fish lately, including halibut. And the more I cook it, the more I understand how easy fish is. If you’re intimidated by fish, especially if you’re paying good money for it, I HIGHLY recommend getting yourself a mea ..read more

15 minutes. That’s all you need for this recipe. That’s it. If I can get this recipe made and photographed in the 30 minute nap window Avery is giving me these days, you can, too. I believe in you. I also believe you’ll love this dish. I mean, it’s made with hot honey. What a glorious invention. I was introduced to it years ago when my sister-in-law and I decided to build a charcuterie board the size of our dining room table. Everyone and their mom said a MUST for the coot board was hot honey. I trusted those strangers over the internet and they were correct. Well, other than squirting it (gro ..read more

Not only does dinner need to be quick now that I have a newborn, but I also need recipe creations for the blog to be quick so I can actually get them made, filmed, photographed, and cleaned up all before Avery wakes up from her nap. It’s a new kind of juggling I’m still trying to master. But surprisingly enough, I first made this recipe back when I was pregnant and had all the time in the world. But did I get it shot and photographed back then? Of course not. I was much too tired to function. Luckily I no longer have a human draining my energy from inside me and can finally get back to recipe ..read more

Summer Shrimp Salad

Shrimp is something I often forget about. But in the summer, it’s the BEST! It doesn’t take long to cook so that means you don’t have to have your stovetop on for very long and it’s so refreshing compared to some of the heavier protein options out there. I recently started getting shrimp delivered to the house in my monthly meat order and I’m so glad I did. Now I make shrimp salads weekly because it’s so damn easy! Veggies + protein + a delicious dressing = a very happy pregnant person! And the best part is that this dressing goes FAR, so you can keep it in your fridge for the week and use it ..read more

So you know the beloved crab cakes? Why aren’t more fish-type cakes on the market? What about cod cakes? Or Mahi Mahi cakes? I have a theory…it’s probably because websites are all about SEO optimization and no one is searching for cod cakes. What ARE they searching for? Some gdamn cute crab cakes. Well, I’m not great at SEO nor do I want to deal with crab. So many legs. Instead, it’s all about the salmon. You know why? Because salmon is loaded with nutrients and it’s stupid easy to make any day of the week. Trust me on this one. You’ll have this meal on the table in about 30 minutes. YAY for y ..read more

When I was in New York a couple weeks ago, I ate at a cute little Australian restaurant called Ruby’s. This spot is known for its salads and bowls, so I obviously needed to go there…bowls are the only way I would prefer to live my life. But when I saw their pumpkin spinach salad on the menu, I decided it had to be mine. And this salad DID NOT disappoint. It was absolutely delicious. It had spinach, roasted pumpkin, pine nuts, feta cheese, and a pomegranate dressing. And I added shrimp to my salad to add some lean protein to the mix. So you know what I did as soon as I got home? I made a pumpki ..read more

If you follow along on stories, you know I make A LOT of bowls. I make breakfast bowls, lunch bowls, and dinner bowls. And most of those bowls look pretty much the same – chicken, beans, veggies, and some sort of sauce or dip. Which is exactly what I had for breakfast this morning. But sometimes I like to mix it up and add a whole new flair to my bowls. Because you know, I’m fancy. Actually, I eat leftovers 97% of the time so fancy isn’t the best word to describe myself. Instead of lazy, let’s go with resourceful. Yesterday I asked on stories if people would be interested in more easy bowl rec ..read more

I’ve been teaching myself to cook for over 10 years now and I’m still somehow intimidated by fish. Why does it feel so scary? It’s actually quite simple and quicker than most other meats, so it’s a real win-win. And today it’s all about salmon! We have salmon at our house at all time so I’m always looking for new ways to cook it up so it doesn’t just taste like the same salmon day after day. Well this salmon is seared in the pan to get a light crispiness on top then it’s finished with a bit of sweetness. And the sweetness has some garlic in it so you get that delicious rich flavor. It’s just l ..read more

Remember when Rachel Ray had her 30 Minute Meals show on Food Network? I loved that show. That takes me back to my college days when I finally had cable television for the first time and Foot Network became my new obsession. I was pretty antisocial freshman and sophomore years of college, so I spent most of my time in my apartment watching Food Network and cooking absolutely nothing. I do remember cooking a lasagna and it sucked. Luckily I kept at it and I’m doing ok these days. Proof that the Food Network can be used as a cooking school instead of actual cooking school. I know that was offens ..read more
