Trans Day of Visibility 2024

Wowsers it’s been a time for trans and queer communities recently. There’s been a number of Rainbow Crossings that have been painted white over the last week. And that’s after a bunch of libraries had to cancel their ‘Rainbow Storytime’ events because people have threatened violence. The threats are usually directed around rainbow communities being unsafe in general, but there’s a heavy dosage of anti-trans (specific) rhetoric in there. So I figured, even though I’m not a big fan of Trans Day of Visibility, to do a little comic, just to remind people that we’ve always been here and we’re gonn ..read more

Broccoli Blues

Pride has been happening in various places across New Zealand for the last couple of months. It’s been a weird time. But one little snippet of joy was Inside Out Kōaro hosting a fun little art exhibition. The theme of broccoli was basically the organisation’s way of carving out some space to celebrate silliness and joy. It’s been a pretty difficult time for our rainbow organisations – so having a bit of lightness felt like an important space to carve out. I’ll share my submission in the next few days… The post Broccoli Blues first appeared on Rooster Tails ..read more

Sorry it’s a little late. I got side-swiped with my first dose of Covid right at the end of my holidays so I’ve been trying to recover from that. It’s been a bit dark here – covid-brain and the fears have gotten to me, but trying to remember it will pass. I have been testing positive for two weeks now and I’m pretty over it. Fourteen years (I originally wrote thirteen, but realised I’m now entering my 14th year!) of doing this silly little comic is pretty amazing though, I’m pretty sporadic these days – I think partially because I feel like I am an only boring man and don’t have much to share ..read more

Trans Awareness Week

Trans Week of Awareness is always weird. This year, maybe more so… there’s certainly been a swelling of anti-trans rhetoric in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and political parties are putting that into their policies. I think it’s a last ditch effort to grasp onto some sort of power that apparently trans people have (?). I also think probably they’ve mistimed it, because there’s more than enough support for trans people, and it’s gained so much momentum now that it’s probably going to be incredibly difficult to re-de-humanise trans people again. It’s still crappy though, so my little trans badge is m ..read more

Today is Trans Day of Remembrance. The 320 names are those of the trans and gender diverse people who were murdered in the last year – which is part of the Trans Murder Monitoring report. The names are mostly trans-feminine trans and non-binary people – this article has a further breakdown of the data. The post TDOR 2023 first appeared on Rooster Tails ..read more

I went along to the rally to support Palestinians the other week – there were protests all across the country and thousands of people showed up . The rallies continue on each week, I suspect, until a ceasefire occurs. The post GeNOcide first appeared on Rooster Tails ..read more

Tara’s comic Book Dragons is a wonderful YA story about friendship, the joy of reading, and strange creatures who may or may not being ripping portals into your dimensions. I’m positive you’ll be able to find it in good book stores in the future. In the mean-time you should follow her comics at her substack. Also, my other wonderful friend Dani just released this incredible book of poetry – it’s beautiful and funny and queer and excellent. Also, also, my other other wonderful friend Giselle just released this magical book about observing all the incredible tiny things around you. Also, a ..read more
