Bespoke loafers with Seiji McCarthy: Commissioning and fitting  Friday, December 15th 2023Tags: Shoes Seiji McCarthy Share Share this post Subscribe 14 Comments ||- Begin Content -|| In Japan earlier this year I started the process of commissioning a pair of bespoke loafers from Seiji McCarthy.  Loafers are often tricky to make bespoke, and bespoke as a whole I’ve found a little inconsistent, so why did I take this leap with Seiji?  Largely it was because he offers something different - a particular love of American footwear such as that made popular ..read more

Earlier this month I visited Seoul, to see some of the tailors I had been intrigued by but mostly seen from afar, and to visit some of the shops and brands. My impression was of a dynamic city – new development, new retail, every shop with a distinctive concept and branding. Roberto Ugolini bespoke boots: Review Wednesday, November 22nd 2023Tags: Shoes Roberto Ugolini Share Share this post Subscribe 11 Comments ||- Begin Content -|| I recently had these boots made bespoke by Roberto Ugolini in Florence, and they have turned out very well. I have two reflections about bespoke shoes off the back of them. One is that I am increasingly specific about what I need in terms of fit, and it seems to be paying off.  I make it very clear that I only get pain with shoes in two places. One is the outer edges of my toes (little toe joint, little ..read more

Here's a summary of three I've tried recently, which for various reasons I didn't wear, sold or returned. Feel free to ask about others, and if you want ..read more

But he always had an interest in clothes, from his early days in Ivy clothing to the forties and fifties influences that came with learning jive dancing.  It could be easy to see him as being able to wear whatever he likes, just because he's retired - but it became clear when we chatted that Ian has a ..read more

I’ve always liked their clean lines and simplicity, which make them more elegant than pretty much any other option. I also quite like the massage-like feeling of walking on rope. They’re cheap, easy and surprisingly not ubiquitous. However, there are times I like and wear sandals ..read more
