The End is Nigh

After a decade of doing sports photography this will be my last football season. A few people already know this but I thought that it was time to officially announce it. Why the End? Quite simply I can’t afford to keep the business going, in the 10 years that I’ve been doing this I have had to subsidise the business with literally £1,000’s of my own personal finances. At first I expected that I would need to subsidise for the first couple of years as I established myself but certainly not for as long as I have done. There will no doubt be some previous customer’s that maybe surprised that I ha ..read more

Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 Lens Review

Due to my Sigma 300mm f2.8 lens being repaired over in Japan Sigma have kindly loaned a 120-300mm f2.8 Sports to me until January 2022, this I am very grateful for. I therefore thought that it was only right that I did a review of the lens for anyone that is thinking about buying for using for sports photography. The review is over 3 football matches within the same week. Initial Thoughts As soon as I picked up the lens the first thought that came to mind was ‘do I need to go to a gym’. Although several years ago I used to regularly go to a gym (you wouldn’t think it when you see my physique ..read more

Camera Gear Affiliation

I have recently joined a few affiliation programs with different companies/websites. I’ve done this for a couple of reason’s. Firstly, the companies that I have become affiliated with are ones that I have used for most of my equipment. Secondly, it provides me with a chance of income from possible sales. How Does it Work? Affiliate marketing programs allows website owners and bloggers (such as myself) to create links and earn referral fees when customers click through and buy products from the different sites. For example one of the affiliations that I have is with eBay. If someone looks on my ..read more

Back to Work!

So today I go back to ‘work’ behind the camera as Chester-le-Street Town FC has it’s first pre-season game of the 2020 – 21 season. Although it is going to be a very strange occasion as following the FA’s guidelines no spectators are allowed in to watch the games. This one factor has brought a lot of frustration to fans and clubs alike as the question has been raised. ‘How can people be allowed into shops and pubs but not allow 100 or so fans into a game that would be socially distanced?’. A lot of people seem to have lost some faith in the FA looking as if they have lost touch with lower leag ..read more

As we’re going through the current Coronavirus pandemic I thought that I should write a blog post on what is currently happening with my sports photography business. I could quite simply end the blog with the final word of, nothing. I did think that it was only fair that I added a bit more to it. It also it gives me a chance to air grievances that myself and other photographers go through when we are working. End of 2019-20 season. The FA has announced that the 2019/20 season for National League System steps 3-6 and the Women’s Leagues steps 3-7 have effectly ended. Then that also equate ..read more

As I sit here watching the women’s world cup I just have this feeling that I want the 2019-20 season to start now! Although I haven’t even picked up my camera since the season ended I just want the next time that I do pick it up to be for the 1st pre-season friendly that I cover. It just so happens, the next time will actually be sooner than that as I plan on making a trip to High Force and Low Force next weekend, once I have those photo’s edited they will be up on my site under Non-Sport. One reason for me to go out with the camera soon is because I got a new Manfrotto Befree tripod for my ..read more

It’s Been 2 Weeks………

No, that was lyrics to a song, it’s been 2 games working for White Rose Photos and although you think you know what your doing, yo only know a little bit! You see, I’ve never had to use a laptop at pitch side before, never in the 4 years that I’ve been doing sports photography. Now that I have to use my laptop at pitch side it means that I also have to take into consideration learning from mistakes (aka teething issues). The first game that I did work for White Rose Photos was South Shields FC vs FC United of Manchester which was a pre-season friendly, Shields won 3-0. At that game my plan was ..read more

Yes that’s right the next football season is almost upon us, I know that I have been quiet over the summer as I have not attended any cricket games but I felt that I just needed a bit of a rest this year. So, what will I be doing now that I am no longer associated with Gateshead FC? Well I am extremely happy to announce that I will be working for White Rose Photos which for me means that I will be even busier than I have been before and as the old saying goes, it’s onwards and upwards. Literally upwards as I will starting to cover league games this season as well as non league. Although I won ..read more
