Reasons for Popularity of Rhinoplasty
Dr. Geoffrey Tobias

Why are so many people having rhinoplasty done? The popularity of rhinoplasty, or nose jobs as they are more commonly called, is continuing to rise. According to American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), of the more than 17 million cosmetic surgical procedures done in the United States in 2016, the third most performed was nose surgery. Right behind breast augmentation and liposuction, rhinoplasty showed a 2 percent increase from the year before. Women make up the largest segment, but there are also thousands of men and even children turning to nose surgery; some for functional issues but m ..read more

Millennials Are Changing the Shape of Nose Jobs

Is opinion changing when it comes to what is considered the perfect nose shape? If you have never given any thought to how much you love your nose or hate it, there is probably one very good reason: it fits your face. Lots of people go through life totally oblivious to how their noses appear. Others look in the mirror and are unable to appreciate the beauty of their eyes or the tone of their skin because of the imaginary spotlight that shines entirely on the glaring imperfections of their nose.   Sometimes this obsession with what is wrong or unappealing about the shape of the nose is und ..read more

The Royal Effect on Nose Jobs

Is there anything wrong with wanting to have the same nose as a celebrity? There’s about to be a new princess in town! Stand in line at any grocery store across the U.S. and every magazine and tabloid lining the check-out area will have at least one photo of Meghan Markle, the American actress engaged to marry Prince Harry, grandson of Queen Elizabeth II. Walk into a rhinoplasty surgeon’s office, and you are quite likely to hear someone requesting to have their nose shaped to look like Markle’s. She has currently replaced her soon-to-be sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, as well as multiple Kardas ..read more

Rhinoplasty: Closed or Open Procedure?
Dr. Geoffrey Tobias
by

Is it better to have closed rhinoplasty surgery or the open procedure? First, even though the term “procedure” is commonly used when discussing rhinoplasty, it really is not accurate. In most dictionaries, a procedure is defined as “a series of actions conducted in a certain order or manner”. That is not a good way to look at rhinoplasty, whether closed or open. There may be types of surgeries that fall under simple or routine, but rhinoplasty is not one of them. In fact, it is considered one of the most challenging operations there is and, perhaps, the most difficult of all types of plastic s ..read more

Can non-allergic rhinitis be caused by a deviated septum? Age, gender, ethnic background and all other ways we use to differentiate ourselves from others aside, there are certain behavioral characteristics that we all share to at least some degree. One of those is our ability to completely ignore and fail to appreciate those things that are functioning properly, like being able to breathe freely and easily. It isn’t until that function is impaired in some way that we realize how much we take it for granted. Just ask someone with ongoing or chronic rhinitis. Whether their struggle with constant ..read more

Why Is It Called a Nose Job?
Dr. Geoffrey Tobias

Why is rhinoplasty called a “nose job”?Nose job? How do you feel about the term “nose job” being used for a surgical procedure? Even though you will not find it in medical dictionaries, it has certainly become a part of the vernacular.  Chances are, in the not too distant future, you will be able to look in a standard, highly respected medical dictionary and there it will be. But should it? When a brain surgeon goes to work, nobody calls it a brain job. Break your leg and it’s unlikely that anyone in the emergency room will utter the words “needs a leg job, stat!” So why do we refer to r ..read more

I only want to do this once, so how can I make sure that I get the perfect nose job?If you take a moment to think about it, that is actually a very astute question.  Even though the initial premise of being determined to get it right the first time would seem to be obvious, that is not the way far too many individuals approach rhinoplasty. The “how do I get the perfect nose job” part of our question is not as simplistic as it may sound. In fact, it has two very important parts; seeking a successful procedure and determining what is actually the perfect nose.Without mitigating circumstanc ..read more
