Soft towels and sustainability are both important to me, and while the touch test is great for testing the way a product feels, knowing how eco-friendly it is a bit more complicated. That is why I look for the MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® label! This towel from Caro Home is MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® certified, which lets me know that my skin won’t be in contact with harmful chemicals. OEKO-TEX® is focused on safe and sustainable textiles, including home products. EP150 DIY Sofa Bed
HomeMade Modern
by Ben Uyeda
4y ago
This DIY Sofa transforms into a bed and is way more comfortable than most convertible sofas since the design is based around a Tuft & Needle TwinXL mattress. The padded backrest is completely DIYed and doesn’t require any sewing. This entire DIY Sofa Bed was made from 3 sheets of ¾” plywood, some 3/8” bolts, finish screws, ¾” EMT conduit and 3-1/2” pool noodles. I used the linen sheet set also from Tuft & Needle in slate as the sofa cover. The conduit is strong and has a nice flex to it but steel pipe with threaded flanges could be used instead to make a more heavy duty sofa. If wa ..read more

EP149 DIY Easy-To-Build Plywood Desk
HomeMade Modern
by Ben Uyeda

This DIY desk is made out of two sheets of ¾” plywood and three 2x4s. It only requires a few basic power tools and took us about three hours to build. I will posting cut sheets and dimensioned plans on the site soon. We used oak veneer Purebond plywood and stained it with Varathane wood stain in "Vintage Aqua". This design could be adapted to fit different room sizes and could be made up to 6-feet long. It looks like a lot of us will be working or studying from home for a bit and I thought that some DIY Desk designs might be helpful, I wish I could do more. Be safe, everyone! INSTR ..read more

It looks like a lot of us will be working or studying from home for a bit and I thought that some DIY desk designs might be helpful. These are easier and faster than our typical projects and only require 2 basic power tools: a circular saw and a cordless drill. A random orbit sander is helpful and we used one but it isn't essential. The first 2 DIY desks are really simple but have different looks. We started with a mid-century modern desk out of plywood and raw steel. We then added color to the next on with Varathane wood stain in "Rose." The third desk is more of an arts and crafts tabl ..read more

MINI is doing some really creative projects to explore new ideas in design and technology and is thinking beyond automobiles. I got to check out the construction of a MINI Living project in Shanghai! I am working on a new series of 3D printed furniture. I am still pretty new to 3D printing, but I thought it would be fun to share these experiments. I used my Pulse 3D printer to print PLA brackets that connect EMT conduit and poly carbonate to make this 3D printed liquor cabinet. My review for the pulse 3D printer from matterhackers is that it is better than the Robo 3D printers and the Makerbots I used to use. I used formZ n ..read more

INSTRUCTIONS: This DIY marble backsplash was made out of mesh mounted hexagon tiles from the Home Depot. I wanted an asymmetrical modern look and used the hexagons to create a landscape aesthetic. We used Fusion Pro Grout in Bright White which is by far the best grout I have ever used. It is a bit more expensive but looks better, is easier to apply and is more stain resistant than any other grout I have ever used.
