February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, and this year’s theme is “Healthy Habits for Healthy Smiles!”
Healthy Smile Tips
1. Brush your teeth 2x/day with fluoride toothpaste
2. Floss between your teeth daily
3. Eat healthy foods and limit sugar
4. See your dentist at least 2x/year
Teach your child early to brush back and forth in short (tooth-wide) strokes. Brush the teeth’s exterior, interior, and chewing surfaces. Tilt the brush vertically and make numerous up-and-down strokes to clean the inside surfaces of their front teeth. Ensure they are also brushing their tongue – this can ..read more

In fact, dental disease causes kids to miss more than 51 million hours of school each year. No one knows much about the mysterious Tooth Fairy. This leaves parents with few answers to the many questions kids have about the magical being who collects the baby teeth from underneath their pillows. So we put together a list of FACTS about the tooth fairy!
She is at least 114 years old! The first known mention of the Tooth Fairy was in the Chicago Daily Tribune in 1908. She is relatively young compared to Santa Claus, who can be traced back to ancient times.
She visits each child around 20 times. Children have 20 baby teeth that will fall out usually between the ages of 6 and 12.

School’s out and the kids are snacking! We’ve put together a list of dentist-approved, easy snacks that your kids will love to eat!
These fresh snacks are low in sugar, high in calcium, and less likely to hang around and stick on teeth. Added bonus? There is little-to-no prep time:
1. Cheese: We love cubed cheese, string cheese, or cottage cheese, all high in calcium and low in acidity.
2. Raw Veggies and Dip: Think peanut butter, yogurt, sour cream, cream cheese, ranch, hummus, and guacamole. The fibers on veggies help remove debris and food particles on your teeth and dipping is fun!

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the recent passing of Mari Cyphers.
We dedicate this year’s Red Nose Day to Mari, because she deeply cared about its message and helped us celebrate each year. Red Nose Day is an annual campaign using comic relief to raise funds to alleviate child poverty. We are proud to make a $300 donation in memory of Mari, in addition to purchasing fundraiser red noses for our patients today.
Mari joined Alameda Pediatric Dentistry as our COO in 2011. She was always up to something fun, while constantly pushing us to do better and be better. Her ..read more
