Plastic surgeons provide a variety of options to help improve one’s appearance. Plastic surgery, however, isn’t always required to rejuvenate the skin. Wrinkles, acne scars, enlarged pores, and stretch marks are a skin concern of many of our patients. While Botox, lasers, and chemical peels are common treatments, microneedling is another nonsurgical procedure that can help improve these skin issues by stimulating collagen production and thus improving skin texture and tone.   What is microneedling? Microneedling, also referred to as percutaneous collagen induction therapy, is performed us ..read more

Botox Cosmetic© is the brand name of a drug in a class called neuromodulators, which include the brands Xeomin©, Jeuveau©, Dysport©, and Daxxify©. At Potomac Plastic Surgery, we refer to neuromodulators as relaxers as the drugs relax the treated muscle. Relaxers are primarily known for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. However, the application of botulinum toxins extend beyond these commonly known facial treatments. Botox injections are used for a variety of elective or cosmetic purposes throughout the body by plastic surgeons and dermatologists. Results with rela ..read more

Face masks are essential during the pandemic. We are no exception here at Potomac Plastic Surgery, since we require face masks in the office, among many other safety measures! Masks, however, can come with unwanted side effects of increased oil production and the dreaded “maskne“, skin flare-up related to mask-wearing. Maskne Skin irritation from masks occurs from a variety of mechanisms. Air under the mask becomes warmer and more humid. This moisture-rich environment under the mask is a breeding ground for bacterial growth and subsequently acne and rash flare ups. Makeup or products on your ..read more

Relaxing and Lifting the Brow

The eyes are often the first area one considers for plastic surgery. Excess skin and fat develops around the eyes. The brow naturally falls and droops with age, especially the sides of the brow. This sagging and extra tissue of the upper eyelid area crowds the upper eyes. A significantly droopy brow may even decrease visual field in severe cases. While nonsurgical treatments with relaxers and fillers continue to expand in our cosmetic surgery office, these liquid lift options have not replaced surgery. Significantly excess skin and descended tissue still needs to be lifted and reduced by a sur ..read more
