Hi there, On the passenger list for some of my ancestors there are a bunch of people all from the same village. Two of them have a surname of "FILLA" - which I believe is the immigration agent's interpretation of "FIGLIA" - daughter. See below outlined in blue. https://imgur.com/a/Z5v1Smd I'm related one way or another to most (if not all, it's a small village) the people in the section. My questions are: FILLA isn't a name from the village - do you agree that my assumption is a safe one? Whose child is Domenica? I think she may be the daughter of Vittoria Braiotta (at the top), the age seem ..read more

I plugged in my daughter’s baby picture and a picture of a child that could possibly be her half sibling. The percentage came back as 82%. I put in a picture of my daughter and her full brother and it came out to 88%. the 82% seems pretty high based on some other pics I tried for comparison. Question about naming practices 1902 in NYC / Italian Immigrants

Hi there, I found an NYC 1902 DC for a sibling of my g-grandfather who I didn't know she existed. However, her approximate date of birth matches up with another child, whose DC I've never found. How common was it to change a name? The child born in 1901 was Domenica, the child who died in 1902 (11 months later) was Adelina. I sometimes see an Americanized switch but both of these names are Italian. Any help is appreciated - thank you! https://imgur.com/a/eEouWOH submitted by /u/ditdot63 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I ordered the NYC DC for my ggg grandmother. https://imgur.com/a/VInKI8d I'm wondering if anyone can answer my q's: She died in a state psychiatric hospital (that still exists and I drive by it all the time and had no idea!). What are the chances that they still have records from that time? And if they do, do you think I would be able to see them? I'm sure HIPAA didn't exist. "Psychosis with cerebral arterial sclerosis" - is this a stroke? Why would she be in a psychiatric hospital? Did undertakers/funeral homes in 1915 require special licensing or permits? Thank you for any help or guidanc ..read more

Hi everyone, I’ve been doing my family tree for quite some while and the furthest I can go to on my paternal line is my great great great grandfather, John Gregory. I have one document for him and his wife, Alice Rainey or Rooney and as far as I know he has one child in 1855 called Patrick Keenan. John was born in 1825 in Ireland and died in 1897 in Ireland. If anyone could find anything I’d be grateful. I have images of the records but I cannot upload them here. submitted by /u/Low-Interview7104 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
