I thought I would share how I am using THE BIG TIMEOUT. I have now been isolated due to the Coronavirus, COVID-19, since March 17th, and I am focused on remaining calm and creating order in the chaos of my apartment. And a big priority was editing and uploading my SWEET GOODBYE to Late Bloomer Garden 1.0. For all who have seen and been inspired by this garden, I hope you will watch and share with others. I’m very proud of this tribute. Why is my apartment chaotic? Well, with the help of generous friend, Stan, I moved in the last three carloads of my stuff during a rain storm on March 16th. First in a Series of Lockdown Blogs My community keeps me going in these uncertain times. After enduring a slow process to sell my home and beloved garden of 25 years, the end came in a downpour on March 16th. Though I felt I had done a lot of preparation, there was still a ton to be removed before the closing of escrow on the 17th. Stuff left on driveway on Sunday March 15 Without the extraordinary help of two people, I simply could not have done it. Camera shy Vinita, who appeared in my life last October to help me get the property cleaned up to put on the market, came to my rescue again ..read more

New Decade, New Digs After being a homeowner with a garden for 25 years, I will be an apartment dweller in search of a garden to love. Because my property is on the market, I had to secure an apartment as my landing place. In the meantime, I have been moving carloads of boxes over as I can. On Sunday, I filmed my first video in my new kitchen, and set up a Nordamark micro-greens grow kit. In the fall, the micro-greens company sent me their new sprouts grow kit to try, and I set it up in this first video. Please watch! Kaye reveals her new white kitchen Unfortunately, my apartment does not ha ..read more

Follow My Journey I got pretty comfortable developing my garden over the last seven years, but now my home of 25 years where the idea of Late Bloomer was born is on the market, and putting it there in November I knew was going to be risky. So, I’ve stepped outside my comfort zone, and I’m asking my fans to follow my journey to Late Bloomer Garden 2.0. Late Bloomer Garden in October 2019 Between October area wildfires and holidays in November and December, it will be January before an offer might come. Meanwhile, I remain in limbo, with an apartment rented nearby, empty until there is a sale ..read more

In a recent video, “Savor the Harvest,” I taste test my two fig varieties, plum liqueur, a hot chili from Sicily, harvest calyxes from roselle hibiscus and much more. It is a video I hope you will watch, like and share. I share this newspaper clipping of my mother, who is going downhill fast. Her decline coincided with my news of having to move when I told her last December, and hasn’t let up. It’s very hard to see your mother loose her faculties, but especially hard for me this year when I’m losing my home. Kaye with her mother, Bobbie June Kittrell So far, there have been several videos fr ..read more

This week I am the guest of Plants and Me Podcast from the U.K. with Alan Lodge. I hope you enjoy it! Every week the podcast, sponsored by Newlands Nursery, has a new guest, and I noticed several from the U.S. The host is very calm and respectful and let me chat up a storm. Alan wanted to know how I got into gardening and I told him about the epiphany I had about using all my talents to create a web show and blog to inspire anyone to grow their own food. It was a commitment I made to myself seven years ago, and I’m still doing it. Analytics on YouTube have changed drastically in those seven ye ..read more

In my latest video, we harvest lemon verbena for drying. Please watch and share! The lemon verbena dried inside in four days! I was also told if you dry herbs in a dark place, they will retain more of their original color. I had had them in the window sill, so I moved them to a lower shelf in my kitchen. Nest step is crush the leaves and store in airtight jars. Dried lemon verbena Here are a few lemon verbena uses, from my guest, Sausan.
