Rings not closing due to thread bunching up

So I’ve come to the issue with some rings where there’s a lot of tension (as in you do some stitches, a joint, and more stitches, I notice it’s harder to close) where when I got to close the ring it’ll get about 80% closed before the 3 separate strands of thread get all bunched up and prevent it from closing further. I have no idea how this is happening, I am using mercerized thread and it’s really easy to use for everything but this one issue. I’m wondering if there’s anything I can look out for or do differently to prevent this from happening. Is it possible to make my stitches less tight s ..read more

Do you include picoults as a stitch?

I’m new and very confused after successfully completing one tutorial (took me 10 tries). In this video the lady doesn’t count picoults as their own stich, so if it said 3-2-3, it would be 3 stitches, a picoult, one stitch, a picoult, 2 more stitches. Now I can’t tell if other videos are doing the same because they go a bit too fast for me to count. The way I intuitively thought of it was 3 stitches, a picoult, 2 stitches, a picoult, 3 stitches. I am pretty new to tatting and I cannot figure out what is happening with the very top of the pattern? Is it a split ring? Also I have tried to look for the meaning behind L and O, I'm assuming it's loops and chains. The main problem is the top/starting. It gives two O1 options, any tips would be great! submitted by /u/Boiled-Beets [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I bought a pattern from etsy (thekimandI) It does need stiffening. But I am quite happy with how it turned out. I did find adding beads difficult to work with as they kept slipping down whilst working. Any tips and tricks? submitted by /u/Ok-Cheesecake1532 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I've been searching through the Antique Pattern Library for a very specific edging pattern I want to use -- and tonight I found it! (https://www.antiquepatternlibrary.org/pub/PDF/Collingbournes11TattingMaltese.pdf if you're curious) Unfortunately, it appears in what looks to be just an advertisement, with no actual pattern. I've tried my hand at guessing at the pattern myself, but I'm too much of a beginner and my ratios are definitely off. If anyone in here has some time to spare and might be able to take a guess at the pattern, that would be amazing ♥️ I can read bare-bones patterns jus ..read more

I found a tatting book in an antique book shop last weekend and decided I wanted to jump in at the deep end and make a detachable collar from a modified doily pattern I found in it. It’s far from perfect, but I’m having so much fun and learning loads :) one half done! submitted by /u/SemperTremens [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I am new to tatting and have no idea what is expected from the instructions "R 12+12 (to long p of 1st r)". Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. For whatever reason, I am unable to link the pattern without my post getting removed, but this is what the doily and instructions look like on the site https://preview.redd.it/4skiixgd7vtc1.png?width=810&format=png&auto=webp&s=bacbe4b075accc3bc074489f1aa2a04b791a2aa0 https://preview.redd.it/rxffekyk7vtc1.png?width=2280&format=png&auto=webp&s=2003e53de122f9f7467b470e7b4103535b3c3f9c submitted by /u/msssta ..read more
