By Purnima Iyer, 200 Worldwide perfectly exemplified its core mission to spread sustainable solace recently. A long-awaited clean water well finally started making deep – like really, manna-from-below deep – and immediate impact on the lives of the children at St. Teresa Orphans Foundation (STOF) in Songea Tanzania. On the outskirts of town, the well started pumping buckets and buckets of full, fresh, naturally cooled water every day.  Previously, this absolutely essential elixir of life was harder to come by. Long treks to much more distant water sources by the elderly and very young as ..read more

Somehow the years have passed, and I am now celebrating 4 years of working as Project Manager for 200 Orphanages Worldwide. I am sure many of us feel that over the past 2 years with Covid changing the world, time feels odd and the years somewhat blur together. But when the world changes, we must adapt and that is just what we have done at 200 Orphanages Worldwide. As I reflect on the past 2 years, I feel so fortunate to share some of the highlights of what we have accomplished, with the consistent and generous support of our donors! Serving Our Partners Needs | When the pandemic first began a ..read more

2 Years in Review
200 Orphanages Worldwide

Two years ago I joined the team at 200 Orphanages Worldwide. When I accepted the opportunity I knew that this would be a unique chance to do something meaningful. The first year was a time of growth and learning. Getting to know founder, Jan Hanson,  from approximately 2,981 miles away and learning how to support her in the best way possible. I was focusing on understanding how to tell the story of the work we do and how special it is that we get to make in impact, that we will likely never be able to see in-person. The work that we do exists thousands of miles away from us, in developing ..read more

Written by Jan Hanson + Angela McDermott Raising Awareness for Orphans – How You Can Help! Let me tell you a story. A little girl in India lives in Ashirvad. She came down with Typhoid Fever and was very ill. Her caretakers feared the other kids might be exposed. Fortunately for them she was able to be quarantined during her recovery because our donors funded a sick room for the sick kids. The mission of 200 Orphanages Worldwide is to raise funds and awareness for orphaned children around the world. We often focus on the raising funds part of our mission and have done a great job of accomplish ..read more

On June 1st of 2018, I said YES to a dream job of joining the team at 200 Orphanages as the new Project Manager. As I have now passed my 1 year anniversary, I took some time to reflect on my top 5 favorite moments that have made this one of the most fulfilling years so far! 5) Getting to Know Our Partnering Organizations   We partner with incredible organizations who do life changing work around the world. As part of my job, I communicate to these organizations to find out what their needs are, how we can get their story out, and then eventually circle back to let them know how the goal h ..read more

By Linda Hanson This story started approximately 9 years ago. I was asked to join some work gals and take a Mosaic class in Northeast Minneapolis, little did I know almost a decade later how that action would one day turn into something that would reach across the ocean to Africa. Two years ago when I was asked to go to Tanzania to visit and help out at an orphanage I immediately said yes!! You see I had taken care of elderly parents and buried them and raised 4 boys and had just welcomed my 3rd granddaughter to our wonderful family. Linda and Reading Buddy Bette from Tanzania God had prepare ..read more

I was only 14 years old the first time I traveled to a “third-world” country or more appropriately known as a “developing” country. I flew to Dominican Republic with a church youth group for a 2 week trip to help build the second level for a local orphanage. That trip changed my life forever. I had never worked so hard, been away from home for that long, or experienced a culture so different from my comfort zone – and I grew up in Miami! That experience ignited a fire within my heart for international service and I have been so fortunate to follow up that trip with other opportunities to Guate ..read more

Meet the Pequinias at NPH Mexico  Jan Hanson, Exec. Director/Founder In April 2018, I traveled from Phoenix to Mexico with Belinda Rhodes, Development Director with NPH International Southwest Office. Our partnership with NPH started shortly after 200 Orphanages started in 2008. I met the former director of NPH and immediately felt a kinship with their work raising funds to support NPH mission to orphans in Mexico, Central America, Haiti and South America. Our first project ever was to help rebuild NPH Haiti after the devastating earthquake destroyed buildings, killed thousands, in ..read more

My sister in law, Linda Hanson and I ventured out to Tanzania to do a site visit at Mainsprings, JBFC  in Mwanza just off Lake Victoria in early November. I like to go to the projects our donors support and give a first-hand report. Here it is! Mainsprings-JBFC- works to give vulnerable girls holistic care, including safety, shelter, medical care and excellence in education…all the things necessary for a bright future. They also help alleviate extreme rural poverty in Tanzania. 200 Orphanages has been partnering with JBFC for almost nine years. We recently had donors fund a tractor and gr ..read more
