Today, my little girl left for good.  She ran down the steps with smiles and chuckles, 2 large suitcases, 3 cartons of toys, a doll carriage, an enormous walking doll, a doll crib, a tricycle, and the wonderful knowledge that whatever was ahead, God would be there My mind goes back to the timid little blonde three-year-old clinging to a Social Worker who had walked up those steps two, almost three years before.  In her hands a paper bag not large enough to be called a grocery bag.  Inside the bag were all her worldly belongings.  Her dark eyes intrigued me as I knelt down t ..read more

The Heart of GLA's Mission in "Journey to 30" As God's Littlest Angels (GLA) strides forward on our "Journey to 30," a critical aspect of this milestone year is our focus on Strengthening Families in Haiti. Seasons Greetings, GLA Family and Friends! As Christmas draws near, marking the close of 2023, we want to take this opportunity to reflect on God's faithfulness and your dedication to supporting vulnerable children in Haiti this past year. Let me first say - thank you for your commitment to this mission of healthy children, empowered families, and stronger communities! In February, as many of you know, GLA faced the abrupt challenge of evacuating our Fort Jacques facility amidst rapidly escalating gang violence in the area. We safely transported our children and some staff to southern Haiti th ..read more

What is reunification? Reunification is the process of reuniting children (usually abandoned in an orphanage) with their biological family - priority is with the parent(s). Still, other biological relatives may also be an option should the situation require it. Foster care is the alternative option when biological reunification isn't an option. It is important to note (in Haiti) that all families undergo rigorous vetting in addition to training and education - all done by trained social workers and under the oversight and approval of IBESR - which is directly involved in the process. Navigating Transitions: Our Angels have endured many Transitions

Transitions are a part of life and can be incredibly challenging, especially for orphans dealing with trauma and upheaval at a young age – most of our Angels evacuated the only home they have ever known. The passing of Mother’s and Father’s Day reminds us of the unique struggles children without parental support face. The instability of moving to a new location can be overwhelming. Children rely on a familiar environment, routines, and family for security and comfort. Disrupting these foundations creates many emotions, such as fear, anxiety, and confusion. The absence of parents intensifies t ..read more

“He Didn’t Have To Be”

Daddy has easily been my most difficult promotion and is one of my proudest titles – but it comes with immense responsibility – to protect, to provide, and to prepare my kids physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I am blessed that my dad was a good example of the self-sacrifice required to love a family well – I am also blessed that he devoted himself to being a dad that “stepped up” to love and care for kids who weren’t his own. In the late 90s, country artist Brad Paisley released a song entitled “He Didn’t Have To Be.” The song tells the story of a new dad standing in the delivery room ..read more
