The Global Orphan Project

Throughout his childhood and leading into adulthood, Frank’s mother had been the primary caregiver for him and his younger siblings. But when he was only 19-years-old, Frank’s mother passed away, leaving his family vulnerable and at high risk of falling apart. Being the oldest, the role of head of the household fell on Frank’s shoulders. Becoming the main caregiver to three children – the youngest of which was only eight months old at the time – would be an enormous responsibility for this bright and kind young man to handle alone. A local church learned about his family and invited Frank to ..read more

When ethnic cleansing reached their village of Djugu, Maurice and his family were forced to flee their home. He took his wife, Jeannine, and their six children to Bunia, and while the family was safer there, they were also like most internally displaced people (IDPs): vulnerable. Our local church partner invited Maurice and his family to participate in Father’s Family. Drawing on what they learned in the program, Maurice and Jeannine set a goal to save some money from their casual labor work in people’s gardens. With those savings, they hoped to purchase a second motorcycle for Maurice to use ..read more

On the morning of August 14, 2021, news spread like wildfire that a 7.2 magnitude earthquake had hit the southwestern part of Haiti. Just as efforts got underway to deliver essential supplies to our local church partners and the people impacted, Tropical Storm Grace provided a second devastating blow to the area. Your prayers and donations generously poured in, enabling tons upon tons of food, tarps, and supplies to arrive in the hands of our brave and dedicated local leaders. In the aftermath, God answered our prayers and shielded every single one of our church partners and th ..read more

Churches help a father and son get second chance as family
The Global Orphan Project

This story was shared by Teri DeVoe, CarePortal Field Training Specialist: Several years ago, I had the role of monitoring visits between parents and children involved in the child welfare system who were working towards reunification. It was during this time that I met a dad and his nearly teenage son Caleb*. Dad had been incarcerated for about six years, and a judge had terminated his parental rights. Mom was dealing with challenges of her own, which led to Caleb and his siblings being removed from her care and placed in separate foster homes. While Caleb was living with a foster family, hi ..read more

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, thousands of people who have been traumatized by war and displaced from their home have fled to the town of Bunia. Their feelings of anxiety, fear, and helplessness are things that Bishop William Bahemuka, the Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Boga, has also experienced. That’s why he’s determined to bring strength, hope, and love to these Internally Displaced People (IDPs) through the saving power of God and His church. “I was born and grew up in Boga, which is a very small village in the Ituri Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo,” says ..read more

Is giving back to the community an important part of your workplace culture? Corporate philanthropy is a wonderful way for employees at all levels of an organization to come together and make a positive impact in the lives of others. Some of the most vulnerable members of our society include the over 400,000 U.S. children in foster care. The majority of these kids have been removed from their homes due to neglect, which is entirely preventable when families have connection to caring supports within the local community. Your co-workers can be mobilized to generously give their time, talents, a ..read more

Remembering the courage and faith of Pastor Mohammad Yamout
The Global Orphan Project

Dear GO Family, It is with a heavy heart that I share that Pastor Mohammad Yamout passed away on Wednesday, May 18 from a heart attack. The Lord touched the life of a street kid in Beirut, set him apart, and used him as a powerful Ambassador of Jesus Christ to bring forth Lighthouses of hope for multitudes of suffering children and families, and throngs of otherwise cast out, cut out refugees, whom Pastor Mohammad always welcomed and loved with all that he had to give. Pastor Mohammad’s story is one only God could have written. Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 ring in my soul when I thin ..read more

Growing up, Zeinab had goals and aspirations for her life just like any other young person. More than anything, she dreamed of one day riding a bike and being able to wear normal shoes. As simple as these dreams may seem, every doctor, surgeon, and medical professional delivered the same heart-breaking news that they would never happen. Just as Zeinab had lost all hope, God saw her suffering and heard her prayers to be healed. Watch her incredible story: Zeinab was born with a deformity in her hip that impacted her mobility and stunted the growth in her left leg. As she got older, she had to ..read more

Your church and its body of believers has a divine calling from Jesus to love and serve others just as He did. By following His perfect example and living an active faith, your church can make a real difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of our society, which includes the over 400,000 U.S. children in foster care. The foster care system is overrun with children experiencing these adversities, and they need your discipleship to show them Christ’s love ..read more

African widow empowered to dream big for her ten children
The Global Orphan Project
by Julie Smith

For over five years, Susan* and her ten children lived in an Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) camp in the Ituri Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Ethnic conflict had claimed the life of her husband, leaving her and her kids to live on sporadic handouts from charity organizations in order to survive. The best Susan could hope for in providing for her family at that time was to either wait for a truck to pass by with some corn flour or wait to die. Last year, the local church in Bunia (the capital city of Ituri Province) launched our Father’s Family program, and the group pic ..read more
