"Meeting" Stella!
Operation-Orphan

In the fall of last year, Liz got in touch with us on behalf of Stella, a lovely lady with a passion and talent for knitting, who was looking for a charity to donate her knitted creations to. Stella has been knitting for many years and the hobby has kept her busy, especially during the Covid lockdowns. Liz, who works with Stella on a companionship basis, visited the office on Stella’s behalf bringing suitcases full of beautiful, warm, and very colorful jumpers, hats, scarves, and blankets.  Waste Nott Want Nott is still here to help you, help the environment, and help vulnerable children. The safety of our customers and team is our top priority, and as our whole service started up during lockdown, not much is changing with the new Covid-19 guidance. Here’s a reminder of what we do to keep everyone safe: Contactless collections: leaving your items outside your house (covered if it’s raining!) means that the team don’t have to enter your home or speak to you to complete the collection – you don’t even need to be in! If you do need to come in contact with the team for any re ..read more

We’ve continued delivering essential services throughout all lockdowns, and we’re not stopping now. The safety of the recipients of our services, our donors, and our team members, is our top priority in everything we do, so we are continually adapting the way we operate to ensure everyone’s safety and follow government guidance. Although we are continuing to keep children around the world safe, warm, healthy and learning, things may look a little different for our UK-based donors, supporters and visitors - so please bear with us as we navigate the best ways to continue helping orphaned and vul ..read more

How you can help us Keep a Child Warm
Operation-Orphan

We are so grateful for all the support we have received for Keep a Child Warm over the years - from coats, to knitted items, to financial donations, we couldn’t have kept over 10,000 children warm without YOU. Due to recent world events, we have had to adapt the way we deliver our Keep a Child Warm response. Sadly this means we have had to put a pause on our large-scale distributions in Eastern Europe, and our national coat collections. However, this has also given us this opportunity to explore new avenues, adapt our way of working, and find new ways to respond to the very real and growing ne ..read more

We love to it when people reach out to us to find out more about what we do. It’s amazing to be able to share stories of our work and connect with our supporters! Read on to find out what happened when Alicia got in touch with us earlier this year… I was sitting one evening in May 2021, reflecting on the past year and how Covid has affected people all round the world in so many ways. Sitting with my thoughts, I took stock of how grateful I am for the small things in life, a close family, a warm roof over my head, and a stable job that I enjoy. It made me realise that it's the simple things in ..read more

Spreading Some Birthday Joy
Operation-Orphan

Who doesn’t love receiving gifts on their birthday?! But this year, a very generous boy decided to celebrate his birthday by switching things up a bit - by GIVING gifts to other children! Dheer turned 6 last week! To celebrate with his friends and family, he asked for donations to help other children, instead of presents for himself. The generosity of his family and friends enabled Dheer and his parents to make a special shopping trip to pick out some items to help local vulnerable children. By donating duvets, covers, and bedsheets to our Forget-Me-Notts project, Dheer has helped us provide a ..read more

Growing Green for Operation Orphan
Operation-Orphan

In November 2020, the end of a quickly changing year, Brad and the team found a new way to support the orphans and children in our care while helping save the environment too! Waste Nott Want Nott is a waste removal service which ensures items such as mattresses, bed bases and sofas, don’t end up in a landfill. The items are collected from the customer’s home and taken to a shredding machine. There is a small profit from this service, all of which is given to Operation Orphan to use as is needed for the ongoing global projects. The waste removal service started as one Friday evening collection ..read more

Introducing - WasteNottWantNott
Operation-Orphan

During a conversation Brad was having with the founder of TEXTEK, it became clear that an opportunity to generate cash could be realised by offering a collection service for old mattresses, sofas and bed bases. Our neighbours, Ewemove agreed to allow us to use their back yard to temporarily store items, and this vital ingredient meant that collections could start. Most clients that have used the service said that they chose us because we clearly demonstrated that the items were not going to landfill and that the fact that it also helping children was an added bonus. Putting the "Fun" in Fundraising
Operation-Orphan

Here at Operation Orphan, we are lucky to have so many wonderful fundraisers taking on challenges and organising events to support our projects. These range from bake sales to marathons, and everything in between! In recent months, with lockdown and social restrictions in place, our supporters have been getting even more creative with their fundraising ideas. Here are a few stories of what they’ve been up to… Taking Ten Linda’s church normally hosts a 10k run every year to raise funds for charity - but this year, they challenged their congregation to do something ten times a day for the summer ..read more
