Celebrate Spring by sewing a “tulip wrap skirt.” This skirt is easy to make and can be customized with all different fabrics and prints. This can work as a beach cover-up or use it to dress up any occasion. I drafted the pattern so you'll learn a bit of pattern making skills as well. Get the tutorial below on how to sew a wrap skirt.  Supplies:  Brother SE1900 Sewing Machine(Opens in a new tab) 1-2 yards of fabric (most fabrics will work – I’m using a gauze fabric)  Curved ruler  Fabric marking tool  Read more ..read more

We love going to the beach, and go often in the summer. The kids enjoy searching for seashells and cool rocks. I thought it would be fun to make a DIY beach bag for shell collecting with mesh fabric that could shake out the sand in the process. I also like to use this handy bag for sunscreen and other beach essentials. You can personalize these with embroidery for gifts as well. Get the tutorial below on how to sew your own Mesh Shell Collecting Beach Bag. Read more ..read more

DIY: How to Sew a Simple Japanese Knot Bag

I wanted to try a unique style bag and have been seeing the Japanese Knot bags around. The Japanese Knot bag is simple to make and can be made in all kinds of fabrics. One handle is about 2” longer than the other so you slide the longer side through the shorter side to create the “knot” closure. I had some Shibori fabric pieces I patch worked together to make the bag with. You can watch the video of how to do these shibori hand dying techniques here. This bag can also be made reversible too!   One of my favorite things about machine embroidery is being able to customize gifts and projects. It's a fun way to add color and personal design to garments like a jean jacket. Denim is an ideal fabric to embroider on because of the medium to heavy weight woven material which does well with dense designs. With embroidered denim on trend, I wanted to share a tutorial on how to machine embroider on a jacket. Make these for an upcoming wedding for the bride (great for wedding photos) or gifts for the bridal party. So many ideas and ways to customize these. Get the details below to ..read more

Looking for a garment to sew for the upcoming warmer months? Try an easy, breezy linen pant. A classic staple piece to have in your wardrobe and works for casual and dressy occasions. Sewing pants can seem tricky but they’re not as hard as one would think. Find a pattern or draft one that’s loose fitted and wide leg for a comfortable fit you can’t get wrong. I used a vintage one from my Grandma’s pattern stash and they worked out perfectly. I added some pockets and it’s a great linen pant for me.     Lately I've been taking classes at a University. I was always dinging up my laptop in my bag or backpack and I thought I really need a pouch/case. So in "Trash to Couture" fashion I pulled out my sewing machine and made myself one. It's a pretty simple project and requires a couple supplies I had on hand. I will say this gets a lot of compliments so may be a good gift idea as well. The padding keeps it protected and I love a pretty print.
