I loved everything about creating this Semi naked wedding cake from the simplicity of the cake, to the stunning flowers to the beautiful gardens at the venue. The couple choose a simple semi-naked cake which are growing in popularity especially for those that aren’t loving lots of icing. The flavours of the cakes were salted caramel, white chocolate & passionfruit and traditional vanilla layered with strawberry conserve and our signature vanilla bean butter cream. The cake was decorated with flowers to match the brides bouquet, blush roses, thistles and cream germini supplied by the Concep ..read more

Chocolate Drip Wedding Cake

What’s not to love about this Chocolate Drip Wedding Cake, the smell of chocolate was amazing, there is always something so satisfying about having a cake which looks fantastic, tastes delicious and smells divine and this ticked all the boxes. The couple fell in love with a single tiered design and very much wanted it turned into a wedding cake, so with my own twist and the addition of macaroons, meringue kisses, white chocolate shards and strawberries we came up with this design during the couples consultation. They married at the beautiful Christchurch Harbour Hotel in Dorset overlooking the ..read more

This wedding cake combined two of my favourite styles with a blue ombre effect and romantic soft ruffles. It fitted the theme of a beach wedding perfectly held with FJB Weddings at The Sandbanks Hotel on the Dorset coast, the venue was decorated with windmills, bucket & spades and beach hut table centre’s made by the wedding couple. The Ombre Ruffle cake was for the wedding of Lorraine & Katie, they were such a fun couple to work with, the flavours they choose were salted caramel, white chocolate & passionfruit and cherry bakewell.   The post Ombre Ruffle Cake appeared first ..read more

Wedding Cakes Inspired by Fashion A Worldwide Collaboration

I’ve waited along time to reveal a very special project that I’ve been involved with, back last year I was asked to be part of a cake collaboration alongside some of the best cake makers across the world, the collaboration ‘Wedding Cakes Inspired by Fashion’ was inspired by gowns designed for Barbie. Having a daughter who loved her Barbie (and if I’m honest I loved mine too) I jumped at the chance to be involved. I picked the gown which would be my inspiration designed as part of the Magia 2000 Italy collection by designer duo Mario Paglimo & Gianni Grossi. I chose my design as I liked the ..read more

Navy Wedding Cake

Creating a Navy wedding cake with textured icing was way out of my comfort zone. You’ll see from my photos I create a lot of semi naked wedding cakes using fresh flowers or smooth iced pale coloured wedding cakes. I’ve seen dark and navy wedding cakes flying around the internet for a while and am increasingly being asked to create them, so I took the bull by the horns and started sketching some ideas. I knew I wanted to include ruffles and have gold feature very heavily in the design. The first challenge was to source Navy icing, I generally find buying dark colours as appose to mixing your o ..read more

Wedding Cake Consultations – Living in such unprecedented times and with the whole wedding industry hit extremely hard, it has had a huge effect on weddings for 2020 with most of my weddings postponed up until September and many more after that too. It also means that I have not been able to do any face to face consultations or meet couples at the numerous wedding fairs I attend. Now that lockdown is very slowly being relaxed I can start planning to meet all the lovely couples that are booked with me. For obvious reasons consultations will be very different to normal, so I have set up 3 optio ..read more

Cutting The Cake

The cutting of the wedding cake is up there with some of the most key moments of your wedding day, alongside the first dance and throwing of the bouquet, but what does it symbolise? The cutting of the cake goes back as a tradition to Roman & Medieval times, originally it was based around beliefs of ensuring good fertility.  In Roman times the groom would break the cake over his brides head as a show of the power he had over her and to ensure good fortune and fertility, although it wasn’t actually a cake as such but more of a bread. They would then share the bread with their guests to ..read more

Semi-Naked Wedding Cakes

I’m often asked what are my favourite types of wedding cakes to create, and without question they would be semi-naked wedding cakes. They give such a natural feel and fit in with just about every type of venue from a marquee to a castle wedding. The combination of a natural looking cake with beautiful fresh flowers is a sure winner. I’m a creative sole and in my past have dabbled with a little floral art so getting the chance to decorate my cakes using flowers is a dream. Another plus point of using fresh flowers is to continue the theme your florals create throughout your venue with your cak ..read more

Drip It Baby!

When I received the initial enquiry for this cake combining two of my favourite elements, and the most stunning venue, I knew I really really wanted to make it. I like to call this the Drip it Baby! cake as gold drips were the main feature of this stunning semi naked cake. This one isn’t for the faint hearted or for a cake where time is of the essence, the gold drips look hours to create. To begin Belgian white chocolate was tempered and dripped over the semi naked coating then once set each individual drip was painted with edible gold lustre. I never thought I’d get it finished but it was wor ..read more

Cupcakes at the Castle

Cupcakes at the Castle has a ring to it and was the focus on my most recent wedding cake set up. The wedding was held at Highcliffe Castle in Dorset. It is such a stunning venue with high ceilings and the most beautiful architecture. If you have never visited before I highly recommend it, and even better its open to the public. The wedding was in one of Highcliffe’s great halls with high ceilings, stain glass windows and tall pillars. The cupcake tower was set up with the stone wall and pillars as a back drop. Cupcake flavours followed a boozy theme with a mix of Limoncello, Baileys and Cherry ..read more
