How to Visit The Florence American Cemetery
My Travel in Tuscany
by Edoardo Pucciarelli

The first time I went to the American Cemetery in Florence was when I was a teenager. I was accompanying my father to Florence on a business trip and the beautiful roadside area caught my attention. I asked my father what it was and he told me that it was the Florence American Cemetery for the buried soldiers of World War II. We were the only visitors, and it was a lovely sunny day in summer. I still remember the fresh breeze walking along the grass. Watching the Latin Crosses and Stars of David in the grass, and reading the name of the soldiers, I was trying to imagine the person  ..read more

A Little Guide of Lunigiana, the Valley of the Moon
My Travel in Tuscany
by Nicola Bandini

Lunigiana, in Latin Lunensis Ager, is the historical region of Italy set between northern Tuscany, western Emilia Romagna, and eastern Liguria. Largely underrated and unaffected by mass tourism, it is one of our favorite areas in Tuscany. This mountainous area stretches from the Tosco-Emiliano Apennines to the Mediterranean Sea following the flow of the Magra River. The name Lunigiana probably comes from the devotion to the myth of the Moon, Lunae in Latin, of the ancient inhabitants of Luni. That is the reason why we also call the Lunigiana the&nbs ..read more

Are there Nude Beaches in Tuscany? The answer is yes. The practice of naturism is becoming more and more popular in Italy. An increasing number of people, especially foreigners, visit our country and love relaxing under the sun in absolute freedom, naked. To meet this desire the coast of Tuscany offers this opportunity with five legal nudist beaches. While topless is now tolerated almost everywhere, sunbathing completely naked is quite a different thing. In fact, in Italy nudism is only allowed in authorized areas, otherwise, you risk an unpleasant fine. The advantage of practicing naturism i ..read more

The sad story of the massacre of Sant’Anna di Stazzema
My Travel in Tuscany
by Edoardo Pucciarelli

When I was 17 I remember the mother of two of my best friends narrated to me the sad story of the massacre of Sant’Anna di Stazzema. My friend’s mother’s name is Mita Piera in honor of the two siblings. Mita was the oldest sister of 17 yo, and Piero was her older brother of 12yo. They lost their life the morning of the 12th of August 1944. A day that disarranged the entire area, and passed into the annals of history as the massacre of Sant’Anna di Stazzema. This horrible event inspired the book “Miracle at St. Anna” by James McBride, who collected different i ..read more

Set in the countryside of Tuscany, just a few miles from the sea of the Etruscan coast, Bolgheri in Italy is a historic medieval village amidst olive groves and vineyards. Bolgheri has extremely ancient origins, but its recent development is linked to the history of Della Gherardesca Counts. At the beginning of the XVIII century, the family did a big push for farming, began the reclamation of the swampland, and built an aqueduct. Where is Bolgheri Italy Bolgheri is very easy to reach. On the map of Tuscany, Bolgheri is located roughly in the center but along the coast. You need to l ..read more

Enjoy Firenze with Dan Brown’s Inferno self-guided tour of Florence
My Travel in Tuscany

It may sound weird to write an article suggesting exploring the birthplace of the Renaissance by walking a Dan Brown’s Inferno self-guided tour of Florence. I am sure, instead, that lovers of the novel (and not only them) will appreciate this itinerary following the footsteps of Professor Langdon and his companion Sienna Brooks. During their fast and exciting escape, they hit both some of the main attractions and some hidden places of the UNESCO historical center, so this Inferno self-guided tour of Florence could be interesting for everyone. I love Dan Brown’s novels for their historical set ..read more

My Travel in Tuscany

In spite of the freezing cold that is covering Italy during these first days of 2017, we had the desire to take a short break after Christmas celebrations. Instead of getting a plane flying somewhere in Europe, we preferred to organize a three days Tuscany tour between the Val di Chiana and the more famous Val d’Orcia. Being out of the season, and just after Christmas, we found some attractions, restaurants, and shops closed. This was not a big problem, and we enjoyed this Tuscany tour going back home happy, full of good memories and suggestions to share.  Fortunately, this kind of tour i ..read more
