I am in the process of doing a domain ownership transfer from a web agency to my siteground They have asked me to give them instructions on what to do with the IPS tag? My website is .co.uk, and according to siteground the corresponding IPS will be TUCOWS-CA. Has anyone had experience with this, I want to double check that I am giving them the correct tags? Do I just give them the IPS tag and that’s all? This was their email: ‘Can you please contact us at Example.com with instructions on what IPS tag to update the domain to / Nameservers to point the domain to so you can have control of your ..read more

Provider for a blog website

Hello! I'm planning on starting a blog, and as someone with basically no knowledge on the topic, i'm a bit lost on which provider would work the best for me. As i said, it will be a blog, so i'll be posting mostly text and pictures, maybe a link to where to buy my books. Nothing too fancy or particular. I was considering Siteground, but the renew prices are quite expensive, so i'm not sure that's the best option since i won't need anything elaborate. I would like something that loads fast, has a nice loadout and really, just somewhere to post my works on daily basis. I was reading about other ..read more

Get a domain name without ID verification?

I read a few threads about domain name registrars and decided to go with Porkbun. I tried to sign up, but it required an ID verification, which I honestly didn't expect. Then I read more threads about this, and turns out it's a normal practice for KYC? But I really don't want to share any of my personal data. I just need a domain name for my personal website. Is there a service that doesn't require verification? (Also I'm planing to host the website on DigitalOcean, I don't need any verification there, right?) submitted by /u/vedehcsra [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

When you're looking for a webhost, and you have been using Flask to run it, do you say that the webhost runs Flask or hosts Flask? I basically needed a webhost that "runs?/hosts?" Flask because that is what I have been using, but, I'm not really sure what to ask them when I call?

GoDaddy changed my email server without notice

I have cPanel web hosting and email with GoDaddy. Normally things just work. But this morning my email clients all started failing to connect. After an hour on a tech support chat it finally came to light that they changed the email server. They announced a migration for web hosting from CloudLinux 6 to CloudLinux 8 but none of the notifications indicated that the cPanel email server addresses would change. The staff are bending over backwards to tell me why it's somehow my fault for not knowing I would have to change my email server, instead of just owning it. (I won't even get into the Engl ..read more

Moving all my Domains out of Domain.com

This is a shout-out after the last redesign and more and more "features" takeout behind a paywall. I wanted to move a long time ago, as the dark design patterns and features worsened over time. The last move was in the same direction: more dark cross-selling, taking out the URL forwarding behind a hosting plan pay wall, even if you already have a URL placed there, etc. I don't know your patient, but mine is done. #shoutoutend submitted by /u/surell [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What admin web panels are there that provide commercial support but not cPanel or Plesk?

cPanel and Plesk have become very expensive. I have tried some others that are less mainstream but have found that they have other issues like trying to dockerise everything and share little or nothing and use up exorbitant amounts of Ram. We tried that and found that we ended up quadrupling our Ram requirements for the same number of websites. Maybe they didn't do it right but quadruple Ram requirements doesn't work for us. Is there anything else we should be looking at? submitted by /u/kiwiheretic [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

In order to make sure we have direct access to the data for our content we bought hosting account with the major hosting providers a couple of years ago, we did this instead of asking them for account to make sure that the account they give is not ‘special’. We have realised however that it doesn’t make sense to use this only for us, so here it is: https://hosting-status.themeisle.com. There are no affiliate links and no promo involved, just the raw data that we are using as well, enjoy! submitted by /u/ionutn7 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
