I enjoyed my stay at the Apache Hotel in February of 2020 It was only a short overnight trip but I have not stayed at Binion’s since 2007.  The room was on the 2nd floor up the small set of stairs next to the desk. It was pretty small but not cramped as the flat screen was hanging on the wall and the bed was only a Double. The window did not open but I didn't mind as the only thing to see would have been the back of the signage for Binion’s Casino. The walk in rate for that FRIDAY was only $79 which was about average for the weekend. The room was set in vintage decor. The bathroom was up ..read more

This 50's era, Art Deco motel also served as an Apartment complex for years, providing, just as seedy, residents a cheap place to live. It was getting a little run down until Tony Hsieh (yes that Tony Hsieh) bought the property, as part of his revitalization project.   I checked in and immediately noticed the changes to the lobby. Starting with it being gone. In the "old lobby" now sits a ..read more

Our most recent stay was comped through MyVegas rewards points and it just so happened to coincide with a meetup we had planned as well.    We can now cross off New York-New York as one Strip property we have never stayed at.  Might as well start with the check in. Arrived between 1 and 2pm with no more than 10 people in line we got checked in no problem. I tried the 'ol $20 trick and it worked great, I was upgraded from a standard room to a Park Avenue room with a view, so that was a nice touch. From the desk it's a short walk to the elevators which are set back off the main ..read more

Benny Binion pt2.

In 1947 Benny Binion partnered in the Las Vegas Club with John Kell Houssels. That same year, Houssels and Binion put up $25,000 to bail a Club security guard out who was charged with shooting and killing a man there. Houssels sold his share of the Las Vegas Club soon after and Binion lost his licensing because of issues such as these and allegedly his betting limits were too high. The Las Vegas Club closed and eventually reopened up the street. Benny purchased the building the Club was originally housed in, and opened The Westerner Saloon and Gambling Hall. He only ran that for a couple ..read more
