After hours coverage

I have heard recently from a few private practice therapists that a private practice therapist must provide 24/7/365 coverage for their clients in case of crisis. This coverage can come in the form of giving the client your cell number, hiring a service, or working with another therapist to rotate after hours coverage, but simply having a voicemail message that directs a person to the nearest ER or to call 911 isn’t good enough. When asked where they are getting this information, I have never gotten a straight answer. I am aware of Medicare rule 42 C.F.R. §422.112(a)(7), which states in part ..read more

The Trauma & Shame Workshop I just had

Take home lesson for those of you who need to know this: Shame is a survival response to trauma. It's an extension of the "freeze" reaction. It's a 'damage reduction strategy' employed by the sympathetic nervous system, embedded in the pre-verbal areas of the mind. This is why shame reactions are such a bitch to get rid of. The rest of the information in that workshop was old news, but this...this is a game changer for my clients. submitted by /u/Snushine [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I have a super motivated client couple I’m seeing, woman had MDD, she is in individual therapy as well. Man asked for a book that would help him understand depression (he’s extremely intelligent) so he can reduce his frustration about her moods and shutdowns. I know a good book or two on depression broadly speaking… but am hoping for titles or resources aimed specifically at people who are in relationship with folks with depression. Thank you in advance! submitted by /u/saltwaterRilke [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Trafficking survivor work

Hi all, looking for some resources about working with people who have survived sex trafficking. I'm already familiar with complex PTSD, but in my experience so far, sex trafficking survival is coming with a lot of (not unjustifiable) paranoia and conspiracy theories (again, not unjustifiable - I wouldn't have believed a 17 year old coming in and telling me she was flown to a private island to be a sex toy for a prince ten years ago, but that's exactly what happened to Virginia Giuffre), and especially worried and frightened of organised criminal activity. Just feels like a shit ton of differe ..read more

Gulp! Anxious to post here for feeling I should know what to do. Worried no one will respond. Worried I didn’t try enough before posting. New pt. Comes in due to anxiety from playing Dr. Google about neuropathy he’s had for the past 4yrs. Hi parents are getting old and their health is declining. Covid made thinking about his health worse. He comes in saying he wants to learn “techniques for anxiety” I taught him “box” breathing, breathing in, holding, breathing out, holding to 4 count each time. I also taught him holding one nostril, breathing in. Switching nostrils breathing out. Breathing i ..read more

What is Intensive In Home Therapy? Is it just case management or do you actually provide psychotherapy?

Hello I've been reading about IIT on this subreddit and I was just wondering what you actually do at this job. I'm looking for a job that will count as hours towards my LCSW but want to make sure I'm actually doing therapy and not case management kind of work. Just curious what other people who've done this job experiences are like submitted by /u/didinani [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Overwhelmed? Imposter syndrome? 130 clients scheduled this week? This is your place to complain, rant, vent, and get support around the big and small stresses that we all deal with including burnout, workplace struggles, and those wtf moments that happen throughout the week. If your post was re-directed here it's not because we don't agree that this can be a hard field to work in, it's simply that it better fits in this thread than as a stand alone post. Healing_and_Humor pointed this out in one of these threads and we decided to put it here so that you can see it every week: "Ya theories ar ..read more
