Exploring Room Rudy was taking the jigsaws from the shelves and put them on the table. All the other quickly quickly came over to play with them. We all joined in and while playing with the jigsaws we said the names of the animals on them such as ‘dog’, ‘cat’ and the noises they make. We also spotted some trains and cars and the children looked really happy. It was obvious the children enjoyed saying the animals names and the sounds they make so we will play the ‘noses game’ so we can learn more animal names. Rudy’s Dad told us she loves to play with jigsaws.   Discovery Room The children enjo ..read more

We didn’t need to ask them twice if they wanted to go our and touch the snow. Very quickly coats and hats were put on and the wetsuits and wellies were put on in record time. They ran out into the snow and touched it exclaiming “ it’s cold,  feel it” they were telling each other. Michael and Fionn were making marks in the snow with their wellies leaving their prints everywhere. They then used different materials to make more prints on the snow. Parents were del ..read more

Kate decided this was a very good game and joined in too. Kate tried to put the lace curtains on Emily and both of them burst into a fit of giggles. They had great fun playing peep-a-boo together. As the girls had so much fun we plan to take the parachute out and play Peep-a-Boo with the rest of the children in the outdoor area. Emily’s Dad thought that was a great idea. Explore Room Tadgh took the flour container and started to shake it. Laura asked if he would like to paly with it. He was very excited as they opened it. We put two large back trays on the table and started to pour the flour. Other children rushed over to put their hands under the flour rain. When the shower of rain flour stopped we poured some water on top. Again, the children squealed with delight as they put their hands under the pouring water. Then the children began to mix the flour with the water and we had a new texture to explore. Next time we might add some colour with paint! Some p ..read more

Adventure Room Some children wanted to paint and they weren’t shy in telling us ! Kieran said ‘paint’ , while Luke was pointing at the art shelf. Elena laid out the table with everything they needed – big pieces of paper, different containers with lots of paint in various colours. She also put some brushes, sponges and tape out. The children got stuck in and many showed an interest in the tape in particular so we helped them to break pieces off and stick it onto coloured paper. Others focused on their painting using the brushes and sponges. The next time we go painting we might add some flo ..read more

Discovery Room Recently as part of Halloween we found Halloween pasta shapes in a basket on the shelves. There was a lot of talk about Halloween and pumpkins among the children. The pasta basket provoked interest in different shapes and colours and some of the children counted the different types of shapes. Conor accidently stood on a past shape and it broke. As this happened it made a crunch noise and Chloe said “Oh, crunchy!” and repeated this over and over again. This carried on outside while on a hike where Conor and Lee looked around for more crunchy sounds. Conor’s Nana thought all the ..read more

Discovery Room Cathy was talking about a recipe for protein balls which she saw on the back of a packet of Ready Brek she had for breakfast that morning. It was suggested then that the class should try to make the protein balls. We got all the ingredients together and the children helped with weighing, peeling, cutting and mixing the carrot, apple, dates, pumpkin seeds and porridge oats. We had to use a blender to get the texture right for the protein balls. While they were balking we chatted about the ingredients. Rose said the dates tasted like raisins, while Conor said he didn’t like them ..read more

Exploring Room As a result of heavy rainfall puddles formed around the sandpits. The children love playing in the puddles as water play is a shared interest of theirs. In order to expand this interest we added washing up liquid to the puddles which created large quantities of bubbles. This really appealed to the children with two of them jumping right in! Once the bubble puddles were created the children began to walk through it. Having shown interest other materials were introduced including footballs, rubber ducks and bowling skittles. The children loved splashing through the bubbles.   Disc ..read more
