Granor Farm’s main dining room and kitchen In a real dream-come-true scenario, I was invited to be part of Granor Farm’s Book + Supper Club series earlier this month with chef, cookbook author, Why We Cook contributor and friend, Abra Berens. It was an honor and a thrill to be able to share my book with guests who gathered for an evening of conversation and delicious food in this majestic setting. The evening was a crystal clear reminder of the powerful ways books and food can bring people together. We began with a casual conversation and Q + A about the book and the bookmaking proce ..read more

Watercolor and colored pencil illustrations of all the books I read during the summer of 2022. Do you ever feel like books find you at the exact right moment? During the past July and August I read these books while I was recovering from an unexpected and unsettling illness. I know that I chose them, but it felt like they were finding their way to me for a reason. Each book, in its own way, left me thinking about how I spend my time, how precious this life is, being present in the abundance of the every day. In short, I spent a lot of time this summer thinking about what it means to ..read more

In early June during a weekend on the other side of Lake Michigan, I visited the Art Institute of Chicago – a museum that I was lucky to frequent as a kid during family visits to the city. No matter how many times I’ve been there since, each time I walk up the steps between those giant bronze lions, I am instantly nine years old, enveloped in a sparkly golden-hued childhood memory cloud. When I first laid eyes on Monet’s glowing haystacks, Degas’ dancers, Seurat’s pixelated Parisian park-goers, Hopper’s lonely night cafe, O’Keeffe’s looming flowers, I sat on a well-worn gallery bench, awestruc ..read more

A Meal for the Precipice of Spring

My painting of Jenna’s Seder table, watercolor and Ink on paper, 2018. Growing up in West Michigan, my family attended Presbyterian church reliably on major holidays like Easter and Christmas and sporadically the remainder of the year. According to family lore, as a tween I famously declined confirmation in the church. I admire my parents open minded approach; being part of the church community was one available option, but not required. Suffice it to say, organized religion has been something I haven’t felt personally connected to for most of my life, but family history always has been.  ..read more

WHY WE COOK: WOMEN ON FOOD, IDENTITY, AND CONNECTION (Workman Publishing, Hardcover, 2021)  I want to share a little more about how this project grew from an idea to a real [luscious! colorful! 240 page!] book over the last three years. The short story is: it grew from questions. After I became a mom, and as my kids grew from babies to toddlers, I was thinking more and more about how cooking is part of my creative impulse and identity. Like I often do, I took my questions into my studio practice and paintings, and began talking to other women. I had never seen a book that asked these que ..read more

© Lindsay Gardner 2018 I’ve just listed my new Lily of the Valley print on my shop. From now through March 14, which will mark the one month anniversary of the horrific Stoneman Douglas Shooting rampage, I’m donating all proceeds from the sale of this print to Everytown For Gun Safety. This is a small gesture- one that seems tiny in comparison to the tremendous challenge that lies ahead on the path to creating common sense gun laws and ending gun violence. But every little step helps, I’ve got to believe that. I urge you to research and consider supporting any of the following organizations ..read more

MUSIC + MEMORIES: RIP Tom Petty

© Lindsay Gardner 2017 Today I meant to do a lot of responsible things but instead I listened to this album (on CD), retraced a lot of teenage-angsty-hair-blowing-in-the-wind-with-open-windows-in-the-car feelings and drew this cover art and had a nostalgic afternoon thinking about the freedom and crucial nature of music and art and how profound and hard and beautiful and important and delicate this life is. Call me a sap, but it’s been a shit week, with so much inexplicable violent tragedy and loss, and the reality of how no one really has any answers. and this actually helped a little. &nbs ..read more

© Lindsay Gardner Interior Designer Chloe Warner expresses her artistic vision through a unique blend of pattern and color. Her work balances vibrant, traditional florals and textiles, with light and airy geometric pieces, fresh color and modern touches. Chloe’s sensibility was enriched from a young age by her mother’s and grandmother’s elegant interiors and, as she says,”passion for flowers and fabrics,” a propensity that has stuck with her and has become a defining aspect of her aesthetic. After graduating from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design in 2005, Chloe founded Redmond Aldrich ..read more
