After my first stay of 24 days, 4 at ER hospital 20 at treating hospital I had about 13 days at home but now I'm back for round 2 of chemo. About 10 hours into Methotrexate and steroids which the latter has my blood sugar skyrocketing. This treatment should be about 5 days in the hospital which is a cake walk. I'm hoping that the side effects are n ot as bad, especially mouth sores which made eating a challenge. I'm on a plan right now to have a marrow transplant. I know plans change so I'll follow the road as it takes me down a path to remission and hopefully a full cure. To all my fellow le ..read more

My Friend (19M) Was diagnosed with AML-M0 - What Should I Expect?

Hey all. My best friend was diagnosed with AML-M0 about a week ago and has started chemo. Obviously this has been stressful, and I've been having difficulty finding much information on the M0 strand (what it means, whether it's better or more complex to treat than M1 etc.,). From what I've read AML in general is a tough cancer to fight and the prognosis isn't great. I've been seeing the term "5 year prognosis" a lot but I don't exactly know what they mean by that. He's healthy and in shape, doesn't smoke, rarely drinks. When they first caught it he had 29% blast cells, which ranged from 29% t ..read more

Waiting for dad’s diagnosis (63M)

Hi everyone, Over the past year, my dad has been feeling generally unwell but chalked it up to a new BP medication he was on (and has since come off of). About a month ago, the fatigue got to the point where he couldn’t do much without needing to sit and take a break every 5-10 mins. We nagged him to go to his PCP, because we assumed it was a heart-related matter. PCP checked his heart, lungs: all OK. Bloodwork came back with severe anemia: very low rbc, low ish wbc, high iron saturation, large red blood cells. They set him up with a pint of blood for transfusion. He was referred to hem/onc ..read more

Daughter just Diagnosed

My 4 year old daughter was diagnosed on 4/19 with B-cell ALL. That was the hardest sentence I've ever written. Can someone be blunt with me? What am I in for? I zoned out when her doctor was talking after she said 3 years. Her treatment is going to be almost as long as she has been alive. What do I do? What do I need to know that I'm not being told? What do I need to watch out for? submitted by /u/FukTheEstablishment [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Blood in urine

Hey! Im(28/m) on day +46 and im doing great except for some leftover mucositis, general fatigue and bloodclots in my urine. I wouldve been discharged a lot earlier than I was originally too if it wasnt for the clots, they disappeared at around day 30, resulting in my discharge of the hospital, and are now back, putting me back in, even clogging up the urinary tract at times now. All the doctors do is "flush" me with a ton of infusions, but it feels like im stuck in permanent hospital prison that way. Urologist did some ultrasounds and both times found nothing. Is there anyone with a similar e ..read more

Hi! 23F from Italy here, I got diagnosed with AML last december (npm1 and flt3-itd mutations). I'm currently waiting for my last bone marrow biopsy results to come back after my second consolidation cycle of chemo. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to reach remission after my first round of induction chemo. Right now I'm waiting for my transplant to be scheduled, my doctor told me that day 0 is supposed to be May 27. I'm curious about the various exams and tests I might need to undergo beforehand. I understand that each case is unique, but I'm wondering if anyone here can shed some light on whic ..read more

I have recently been diagnosed with AML with the FLT3 mutation. I thankfully reached remission after my first round of induction chemo. I have a non related donor. I'm now waiting for my transplant to be scheduled. So now I'm currently doing HiDAC. I have been staying very positive. I'm young (28) and other wise healthy. I have read so many survivor stories and I'm definitely ready for the fight. I have 2 young children aged (5) and (2). It helps me greatly to talk about this with others and for others to share their survivor stories. I'm also always up for chatting. So if anyone wants to mes ..read more

Declining neutrophils

Hi all, I’ve posted a few times in this subreddit before but haven’t had to come back until now. My partner is currently well into the maintenance phase of chemo for ALL and has had declining neutrophils over the past few weeks despite having no oral chemo. They went from 1.1 to 0.3 and then dropped to 0.1. He stopped oral chemo when they were at 1.1 but they have just continued to decline since. I’m terrified that the cancer has come back because he isn’t sick and is fine apart from the declining neutrophils. His doctor booked in a review a week from now to try and figure out why this is hap ..read more
