My rug, Palette Rug II, was selected by the judges of Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs 30 (Liz Marino, Nancy Parcels, Karen Miller, and Marjorie Duizer). It is such a pleasure seeing it today when I received my copy of the published exhibition in the mail. I had forgotten about the Celebration magazine mainly because the live exhibit of the Celebration rugs in Sauder was cancelled this year due to COVID. I am thankful to the judges for their feedback on my rug which, they said, is an “excellent color teaching tool, marvelous. The turning of every other loop is mind blowing. A wonderfully though ..read more

I am thrilled to announce that two of my rugs were selected to be part of an art exhibit called “Prism” put on by Envision Arts. Due to COVID-19, it is a virtual exhibit, so you can easily view the full exhibition at Envision Arts: Prism. This is not a fiber exhibit, but an art exhibit on color and the rainbow so my rugs are the only fiber pieces in the exhibit ..read more

Stash Builder Bundles On Sale

During this time of COVID, I have decided to work on remodeling my rug studio. As I do so, I also decided I have too much wool so I am bundling it up and putting it up for sale for those of you who might want to build your stash. This is all wool I hand-dyed and use in my rugs. The bundles are great to use if you are hooking people (skin tones and hair colors), animals (fur), landscape elements (grass, water, beaches, etc.), and variegated backgrounds on smaller projects. The best part, they are on sale. I normally sell wool for $32 a half yard. These half yard bundles are only $25, and if yo ..read more

A new hooked rug series with videos

I am working on a new series of rugs called Color Progression. These rugs showcase different palettes of dyes that I have put together to create 85 colors from red, yellow, and blue. Each palette is different. Each of these rugs will have an accompanying art video which expands the visual story. The first one I have finished is Color Progression 1 which features the Van Gogh palette of dyes. I put together these dyes to create a palette of colors that the impressionists used. Since Van Gogh was known to explore contrasting or complementary colors, guess what the video stars? This art video ac ..read more

I am slowly working my way into social media beyond my blog. As many of you know, I was an early blogger before FaceBook and Instagram and Twitter. But somewhere along the way, I got busy and never seemed to get around to making a FaceBook page. That has changed! If you want to keep up with my rugs and artwork, I will be posting shorter items on my new FaceBook page, so click this link and like the page or become a follower. https://www.facebook.com/Red-Jack-Rugs-Studio-104513861309850/ My blog will still roll, but I will try to use it for stories and instruction, while FaceBook will be for q ..read more

Book Cover as Shown on LuLu.com I was thrilled to receive my copy of Rachelle LeBlanc's book today in the mail. It is BEAUTIFUL through and through. I bought the hard copy and could not be happier. Not only is the book's lay out gorgeous with spectacular photos of her rugs and sculptures, but her stories about her own artistic journey as a fiber artist are told from her first impression of rug art viewed at the Shelburne Museum in 2003 to sitting in the cafe of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts finding inspiration in Berthe Morisot's exhibition catalogue. She generously speaks about her own art ..read more

Sauder 2019

I am just back from Denver (ATHA Biennial) and Sauder Village. Because I was in classes either teaching or taking classes in Denver, I didn’t take any pictures. But the Denver guild did a smashing job and I had a wonderful time. I took a few photos at Sauder Village to share. Well, one photo Alexander took of me with my sunflower hat which won the People’s Choice Ribbon. Wow was I surprised! I brought the hat itself back with me from Paris to decorate with prodded sunflowers. I was inspired by Van Gogh’s paintings of sunflowers which I got to see in person (magnificent!) in Amsterdam at the V ..read more

Sunflower Power Bag

I wanted a fun bag for summer travel, something bright and cheery. So I hooked and prodded this panel of sunflowers and a cricket button, and then attached it to a ready-made bag I purchased online. I didn’t have time to sew my own nor did I feel like fussing with zippers and grommets. The ready-bag was very nice quality and my hooked panel sewed on it like a dream. Summer here I come ..read more
