I am heading to rug camp in West Virginia in a few weeks.  Usually I agonize over what rug I am going to start in class.  I purchased this pattern on a Facebook buy and sell group and knew I wanted to work on this.  For me, it is a large pattern at 26" x 36".  I just love the funky horses, but not the color palate that was used. I thought I would dye wool ~ easy peasy, no?  NO!  I decided to use formulas from this dye book. I wanted a horse of a different color - teal.  I did not have any teals in my wool stash so . . . I had some leftover dye, a formula ca ..read more

My son's girlfriend got Zeke almost two years ago.  He is a pomsky.  What, pray tell, is a pomsky?  A pomeranian/husky mix ?  So I wondered how that could be possible.  Well, it involves artificial insemination . . . lol.  Zeke looks so much like a husky, but in miniature.  He is not as big as he looks, is all legs and weighs a whopping 15#. After my son's other dog, Kali, got her wings in early February, he was thinking about another dog.  But let me tell you I was totally floored when he said the birthday cash I gave him went for a puppy.  (I tho ..read more

Northern Ohio has gone eclipse crazy.  I did not realize that is was such an historic event.  According to examiner.org, the last total solar eclipse to traverse Ohio skies was more than 200 years ago in 1806, and the state won't see another until 2444. Here is the path of the eclipse. This is how it will travel thru the northern half of Ohio.  Lorain County, where I reside, is in the centerline totality area.  You can see us just west of Cleveland. I've circled Lorain where I live.  The absolute center line is only a couple miles from me. Our county alon ..read more

~  ERNESTINE ~ I fostered a pug named Cheerilee thru Ohio Pug Rescue back in August of 2017.  Within the week, DSO adopted her.  She was 5 years old at the time and an owner surrender so her exact birthdate was known.  Here is the official "adoption" photo.  I think they both look pretty happy. He changed her name to Ernestine.  Remember the Lily Tomlin character Ernestine on Laugh In?  How she snorted and chortled?  Pugs do the same.  Hence her name.   Here she is today at 12.  Look at that gray face (and a few pounds extra po ..read more

Just another quickie post to share the bunny rugs I have hooked. Peter Rabbit, pattern by Baskets of Wool, Cammie Bruce. Miss March Hare, paper pattern purchased from Winter Cottage Studio, Terri Leamer.  I doubled the size of the pattern. A sweet little bunny I hooked in 2006.  Just a little drawing I did so you are welcome to copy him.  That is the extent of my drawing talent ? My take on the antique Dancing Bunnies.  And finally, I don't consider this rug by Woolen Memories a bunny rug, but since there are a couple of bunnies I thought I would include it.&nb ..read more

Happy Monday to one and all.  Just popping in for a quick post.  Really don't have much to blog about today, but wanted to stop in for a minute. Maria's Sheep is hooked, bound and labeled.  It will be turned it at our guild meeting this week ~ a door prize at our September hook-in. Askew is coming along.  I am not one who hooks really big rugs, and for me, this is REALLY BIG.  I think I am nearing the half way finished mark.  I normally enjoy hooking mindless backgrounds, but I am starting to get B.O.R.E.D.  I may have to do a Saundra and start on a ..read more

There was so much talent on display at the Tipp City hook in.  We had a throw down in the afternoon.  I probably missed pictures of a few of the rugs.  Sorry.  It is hard to take it all in. Another sweet wool applique. I just completed another trip around the sun.  I am trying to figure out where the time has gone.  It is truly scary how quickly the years are passing. My poor brother.  He was recovering so well from the open heart surgery.  Then he started developing "cysts" on the incision.  Th ..read more

So much fun stuff to share from Tipp City.  Jo Wick of Jo's Folk Art Fibers sharing punch needle tips. Antique rugs belonging to Jenny Smallridge of the Wooly Horse.  She talked about the directional hooking of the antique rugs and why it makes a newly hooked rug look old. A pulled loop showing the old blue cotton fabric used on the geometric. This rug has two moons. Chrisi Koehl of Rustic Eweniques sharing some of her rugs. There were quite a few patriotic rugs being hooked. This pattern by Red Barn Rugs is one of my absolute favorites! Wooly Horse ..read more

Tipp City is a vibrant, upscale little community in SW Ohio near Dayton.  Dayton is the home of Orville and Wilbur Wright and the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.  This is the second time I have attended a 2 day hooking event hosted by Ali Strebel, Jo Wick, Jenny Smallridge and Chrisi Koehl.  This little get-away did not disappoint.  The above mentioned hookers each have a hooking business and offer the most wonderful goods.  One could easily go broke there! Ali is set to teach at the Crooked River Rug Hooking Guild in June.  I had absolutely no intention ..read more
