It was a long time coming. For ages, I dreamt of going to Alaska. There was something about the allure of the “Last Frontier,” the wildness, the beauty, the unspoiled natural splendor. Yet, the winters sounded rough, and the distance was always too great to drive to. This year, 2023, the stars aligned and I had the opportunity to visit, touring from Anchorage to Kenai Peninsula, then north to Denali, east to Tok, south to Wrangell-St. Elias range, down to Valdez, then back to Anchorage. What a wondrous trip, it was! I arrived off the plane in Anchorage, snagged my rental car, then drove sout ..read more

Oh, boy! Let me tell you something… I had the adventure of a lifetime last week in Alaska. Before heading northwest by way of Alaskan Airlines, I envisioned Alaska would be a magical place, but I had no idea it was as special, as wild, as giant, as mesmerizing, and as sacred as it was. I spent ten days venturing around the state with my father-in-law Ken, and he is a wild man at heart who spends lots of time in nature and out west, and it was better than either of us had imagined it to be. Our first day offered us beautiful views in Chugach State Park and along the Turnagain Arm to Kenai Pen ..read more

Oregon Coast by © Brandon Elijah Scott. It was day six of my expedition from San Francisco to Portland, which has me touring the famous and magical Redwood forests of Northern California, before I started north on the 101 along the dramatic coast of Oregon. Finally seeing the redwoods made the trip, but my goodness, Oregon has some of the coolest natural places I’ve seen, and I’ve toured over 25 countries and almost every state. The photo opportunities came quick and effortlessly, making my job easy as every scene was gorgeous and striking, and the light painted every leaf and crevasse with ..read more

Early in June I had the opportunity to explore one of the most magical places in the world, the California Redwoods. And yes, they are as cool as you might imagine. Better than that, actually. They are huge, sure, but the intact forests that haven’t been disturbed by humans, is absolutely stunning, and it has a feeling about it. These ancient forests felt like church to me. I found quiet areas where no one was, where I couldn’t hear a car or plane, or person talk. I surrounded myself in the natural world and it felt like a hug. I meditated awhile when the moment was quiet and felt peaceful, I ..read more

After a long day of driving along the gorgeous coast, I found myself in the seaside town of Florence, Oregon. A short walk along the boardwalk yielded a gated collection of boats and small yachts. I entered through the gate and ventured down a metal ramp, then walked a short way to a floating building that read, “Novelli’s Crab & Seafood: Award Winning Chowder.” I entered cautiously, not sure what to expect. A pair of friendly faces greeted me and welcomed me to try their clam chowder in bread bowl, garlic bread made of the remnants, and a healthy chunk of smoked salmon. Owner Daniel and ..read more

Awesome Experience Among the Redwoods in Crescent City, CA

© Brandon Elijah Scott. Of all the places I’ve been and beautiful scenes I’ve witnessed, the California Redwood parks are among the finest of all, because not only are ancient and mind boggling huge, towering upwards of 300-350 feet, but they’re magical as well. When you hike through the many redwood parks (like Humboldt, Montgomery, Del Norte, Prairie Creek, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park and the Redwoods National Park), eventually you get to a place that feels different, and speaks to you. In that moment, it’s best to pause, breathe deep and simply watch, and meditate. Don’t worry abou ..read more

Oh, beautiful Arcata… Ever been? Arcata is one California town that will forever live rent free in my mind, known as one of my favorite places on planet earth. Arcata is a relaxed town who knows who it is and what it can offer its residents and visitors alike, but what’s more is, it’s a town that knows how to live the good life. Within minutes of downtown you can find the great Pacific ocean and within one hour you can discover three of the best Redwoods parks in the world. The weather is stunning year round, with the wet season coming during my winter time, where residents enjoy mushroom hun ..read more

Wow! You won’t believe what all I saw… What a magical trip! With my face still glowing and my body still buzzing (and no, not that sort of buzz), I am back home from a grand trip that took me 1800 miles from San Francisco, California to Portland, Oregon, by way of wine country and through the amazing redwoods, up the dramatic coast, and through desert and over mountains before it was over. The dream of experiencing the tallest trees in the world planted the seed, but it was the bucket list that drove me to the Pacific Northwest. As an avid world traveler and photographer, I didn’t need much ..read more

Ten years ago, I was making my way across the USA with my best friend when my car broke down. The transmission blew and I decided to limp back home to Ohio as well as my transmission would allow, given that the belt was barely functioning. Long story short is we made it to Kansas before it totally blew. Ever since, I’ve been filled with regret not being able to make my way north along the 101 and up into Canada as was the original plan. Finally, ten years later, I am backtracking to see the Pacific Northwest, which I’ve yearned to see for as long as I can remember. There’s something magical a ..read more

A couple of weeks ago I had the amazing opportunity to visit Northern California and Oregon, road tripping from San Francisco to Portland over a ten day period. The trip comes as one of the first since the pandemic laid off the entire travel industry. The simple goal was to experience the Redwoods and see some of the Oregon coast, but so much more happened during my time in the Pacific Northwest. As you can imagine, as a traveler and nature photographer, the Redwoods are a huge bucket list item. And now, looking back, it was better than all of my expectations. Within an hour of landing at SF ..read more
