The marketing for Halloween Ends has been a little odd as most of the images and videos seem to be coming from ads and other media website rather than directly from the film’s official channels Blumhouse and Universal. In fact, in the last week, at least 7 or 8 TV spots have popped up online from numerous sources, and today we have another new one for you embedded below, in which Michael Myers hunts for Laurie Strode in a dark kitchen. If you don’t like curtain scenes to be spoiled for you, I would advise skipping this one entirely. Around one week ago, Dark Universe shared with you a new TV ..read more

‘Carnival of Souls’: Bruce Markusen Celebrates the Film’s 60th Anniversary
Dark Universe: Horror Database
by Bruce Markusen

There’s a famous line in the film, Pet Sematary, in which the character of Jud Crandall, played so well by Fred Gwynne declares, “Sometimes dead is better.” It’s a line that fits the tenor of the movie. It’s also a line that can be adapted to the process of making horror movies. “Sometimes low budget is better.” Or even more specifically, “Sometimes black-and-white is better.” Those lines certainly apply to the film, Carnival of Souls, which entered theaters with little fanfare 60 years ago this month. Filmed at a cost of just over $30,000 and presented in black-and-white as if it were a produ ..read more

Where can the Halloween franchise go after the Blumhouse trilogy comes to an official end this October? Well, one idea we could see happening would be the return of Danielle Harris as Jamie Lloyd. Harris has said numerous times in the past that she wants one more return to the Halloween franchise in the beloved role as Jamie. In a Facebook post this week to celebrate the 15th anniversary of director Rob Zombie‘s 2007 remake of Halloween, Harris, who was cast as Annie Brackett in the movie, shared the following message with her fans: “I’m forever grateful to all my fans for welcoming me back in ..read more

‘Jurassic World’ Writer/Director Colin Trevorrow on Potential R-Rated ‘Jurassic’ Film: “I know I’d want to see that movie”
Dark Universe: Horror Database
by Lucia Z. Liner

For the record, I firmly believe that the original Jurassic Park is a horror film. Yes, the series goes in a more action/adventure direction with subsequent installments, but that cold open is one of the greatest opening scenes in all of cinema, horror or otherwise. That said, the filmmakers’ call to go with a PG-13 rating does limit how severe the on-screen carnage can get. Just imagine if said opening to the 1993 original had the R-rated freedom to have port-a-john guy get bitten clean in half. Turns out, that’s not as unique of an idea as we may think, as Colin Trevorrow, who has either wri ..read more

While best known as the godfather of the zombie horror subgenre, George A. Romero wrote and directed a number of films without the living dead, namely the first two Creepshow films, Bruiser, and The Dark Half. Last year, Romero made the news for the restoration and release of his long-lost existential horror The Amusement Park, which made its way to Shudder and AMC+ in the summer of 2021. Now, the film will get the home video release it never got, as the 1975 classic will hit Blu-Ray (pre-order here) and DVD (pre-order here). Hulu’s Upcoming ‘Hellraiser’ Film Confirms “R” Rating, Shocking No One
Dark Universe: Horror Database
by Lucia Z. Liner

I’ll take “no shit, Sherlock,” for 1,200, Alex. The upcoming Hellraiser film, directed by David Bruckner (The Night House, Southbound), has officially gotten its MPAA rating, and if you expected anything less than an “R” rating for a film that is outwardly queer, outrageously gory, and inherently kinky, you may need to see a doctor for that empty head. This installment of Hellraiser, featuring “Sense8″’s Jamie Clayton as the Hell Priest, has received the hard “R” rating for… drumroll, please… “Strong bloody horror violence and gore, language throughout, some sexual content, and brief graphic n ..read more
