Tuesday Weavers

This morning I brought in a sample card from Maurice Brassard yarns. Marie and I poured over all of the pretty colors, 81 to be exact. We have many colors of weaving cotton on hand but this brand has some shades that we do not have, but we need to see if there is a discount for large orders. While I was looking at the orders I caought sight of the colors we already have on the looms here at the Weaving Center of the Appalachian Arts Craft Center in Norris,TN. These warps are a lot of different items, at different stages in the warping/weaving process. There are Scarves,Shawls, towels, blanket ..read more

Reluctant Serger and Project Progress
Tuesday Weavers

We had a very reluctant member of the team this morning! The auto threading mechanism didn't want to work and it seemed like it was blocked! After rereading the instructions it became apparent that we read them wrong the first time, now all is well! Here are some progress pictures on the looms. Chris is threading her project and on the loom next to her one of the other new weavers is already weaving. Joycelyn is threading her colorful warp and Bonnie is almost ready to start weaving her towels! Mark is threading the warp we put on last week and John Paul is working hard to finish the warp ..read more

It has been awhile since I gave you a peek at all the pretty projects in process, so that is the first thing I will do! Warp and woven project! Phyllis is working on a beautiful warp! Shirley is loving her towel project! Liz is threading her loom, and here is a lovely shiny warp on one of the table looms. Betsy is working on her color and weave gamp, she likes the yellow weft so far. I caught Liz number 2 threading a sample warp, and after I left today they sent me a picture of Patty cutting the warp off of her loom. On the kitchen counter today was a donation that we chose thin ..read more

You may recall that not long ago we had a huge batch of new students come all at once. Well, quite a few of them are ready to learn about the world and wonders of floor looms. Some of our floor looms are ready for new projects and the weavers who have been using them will be gone for a month or two in the near future. So today I got several pictures of floor loom warping basics. (Oh, and we started two new students this week as well!) Next comes a picture of Carol and one of the new students with some of the "older students" in the game of "What happens next?". Linda is working on a bamboo ..read more

Dye Day Update
Tuesday Weavers

I have some pictures from Thursday and Friday last week. Carol told me that there were 6 warps and 7 skeins of yarn for weft dyed for the Tuesday Weavers. There were several that brought their own projects to dye, and there were many there to help out and learn the process. The names I got were: Mark, Jenny, Barbara, and several of the new weavers came out to play with color as well. Dana and Patty helped do a Tie dye class for kids one of the days. Today, Lou Ann was busy rinsing and spin drying the skeins and warps, we really love the spin dryer! Next week I hope to have some pictures of ..read more

Thick Weft
Tuesday Weavers
by
1M ago
There are several projects in the Studio that call for thick wefts. Thick of course is a relative term, I suppose I mean weft that is far thicker than the warp. John Paul is weaving rugs with strips of floral fabric. Jenny is weaving rugs with strips of T-shirt material. Pat is using Blue Jean fabric strips for her rugs, and Liz used fabric strips for the placemates she finished and cut off today. There are several new warps on the looms, Carolyn has a new warp on the loom, as does Shirley and Joycelyn. There are probably a few more, but I didn't get pictures of them. While all of tha ..read more

Today it was almost lunch time before I picked up my phone to take pictures for the blog! As usual there is a lot going on in the studio. There is a lot of warp winding and skein winding for Dye Day that is coming up next week on Thursday and Friday, But first let's take a looks at some of the other things that are happening today. Pat has started weaving blue jean rugs on the Barn Frame loom, that is using the wool rug warp in different greens. Jenny is working quickly through the t-shirt rug weft. Hold the presses, I forgot to put in a picture of our new student Kris cutting her warp off ..read more

Projects Everywhere!
Tuesday Weavers

There is a lot going on in the Studio this week, projects coming off of the looms and projects going onto looms, then of course there is the preparation that goes along with rug weaving. I have always heard that rag rug weaving is a slow process that goes fast! Pat, who weaves on our huge barn frame loom is the proof of that saying. If you have followed us for awhile you will see that I post often of her taking rugs off of the loom and another warp going right back on the loom. Today was no exception, this time she has taken several shades of green and wound them together in random fashion to ..read more

Tuesday Weavers

Here they are again, the new Weavers, and it looks to me like they are getting along well! I really must get name tags on them so that I can learn their names! Pat is in the middle of getting a new rug warp on the ole Barn Loom. She chose a variety of greens in this warp, she had wound it at home and brought it in early this morning and by the time I got there she was almost ready to thread. Jenny was already on her second Tshirt rug, and Marilyn showed me her latest Inkle sample. Liz is planning a new Baby Blanket, and Karin worked on a form for us to fill out and have at each loom so th ..read more

Every year, we hold a potluck after Super bowl Sunday and we call it Souper bowl Tuesaday! I will be posting pictures of the massive amount of soup and other goodies that we had for lunch today in a minute. First I will post pictures from this morning, once again Carol is surrounded by students! After that I found that Linda was putting on a new warp, this one is hand dyed fine bamboo. It didn't take long to get it wound and ready to thread. Once that was done, Carol anounced that it was lunchtime!!! I lost count of all the soups there were, it must have been 9 or 10! After lunch I found C ..read more
