There is so much to share. UCSD Student collaborative public art project First the exciting UCSD Student collaborative public art project. Many months ago, we were commissioned to create ten pieces of public art for the new 8th at UCSD. The new campus is under construction as we speak. We felt that the project would be much more meaningful for everyone, if we engaged students as the lead designers and created the pieces using their designs and my unique cut and cast method. We put out a call for artists and received 35 applications. All were very good designs. Unfortunately, we were limited to ..read more

You may have heard Carol was out for several weeks due to health issues. We are happy to say she is back, healthy and feistier than ever.   We appreciate your understanding when we were late in responding to inquiries or missed a message all together. Running a business without a key person led to interesting insights. During her time out of the studio both Carol and I experienced the day to day differently, but jointly realized how much our business has changed over the last two years and have new ideas on how we may best serve our clients going forward. The challenges we see are; w ..read more

Grateful
Stone and Glass

I sure am glad that October is over. What a month, it started with a total computer meltdown, then a bad breaker in the main electric panel, which took out the VFD HVAC controller resulting in no HVAC, followed by a furnace crash, and if that was not enough then an annealing oven controller crash, which ultimately needed replacement, which also resulted in the loss of a full day’s work and then, two of our color manufacturer’s missed steps, resulting in an additional two days loss of finished pieces. Add to all that, an out of town 50-year reunion celebration and my younger daughter getting ma ..read more

Wow, time is moving so fast right now. I can’t believe that yet another month has zoomed by and we have already started to experience the holiday rush. To quote the song, Jump in the Line “somebody help me, please” This past month saw two fairly large archive pieces find their forever homes. First, this wonderful sea life piece has moved to its forever home in New Jersey. This was the last and best of my most recent three-piece limited-edition sea life wall series, created about two years ago. Fountains The second piece to find its’ forever new home was this lovely copper and glass sea turtle ..read more

Wow, it feels like I just wrote the June blog yesterday. We must be in warp drive. Independence I don’t have much in the way of news, except that I think the July Collectors Club glasses are knock your socks off gorgeous. We are calling them “Independence”. I’m thinking that there is a lot to be said in that name. All of us are finally becoming independent of our plague. These pieces are red, white and blue with sparkles inside and out. We have a plan Carol and I have finally been able to plan again. We have come up with designs for the next several months of Collectors Club glasses; August wi ..read more

June, WOW what a month this is turning out to be. To start with, I turned 70 on June fifth. A big milestone. I have now outlived my father by three years. My wonderful wife Carol and my two Daughters secretly arranged a week-long celebration, which was full of surprises and so over the top that it took me a full week to recover. Thank you to everyone and especially to the over 200 friends, family and patrons who reached out electronically with birthday wishes. I am truly touched by all the kindness and love. Stone and Glass is a buzz with possibilities this month. The most exciting thing is th ..read more

I can’t believe that yet another month has passed since I last had the opportunity to reach out to all of our glass friends and supporters. Where does the time go? As the pandemic seems to be easing it has brought new growth and opportunities to Stone and Glass. Lighting the Way First, a very large public art project for the city of Escondido, one that we have been dreaming about and working on for quite a while now, has reemerged from a long dormant cycle and has begun moving forward. Hopefully by next month we can share the details. For the moment stay tuned for “Lighting the Way.” Steam We ..read more
